What did you do in the garden today?

Children need to be protected from farm animals. Even adults need to be careful. I watched a YouTube video where some "homesteading" guy was attacked by his boar hog and it nearly killed him. They butchered the hog while the husband was in the hospital recovering.

Wow... I have an intact Nigerian buck and a doe. I adopted them from the previous homeowner when we bought our house last year. I have owned a couple of goats in years past but still a relatively inexperienced goat owner. Neither of my goats are completely tame. They will come up and eat out of your hand. They will also allow a slight scratch on the head but you can't touch them anywhere else or they run away. My male goat has never ever tried to mount anyone except his mate. Neither of them have ever headbutted anyone either. I consider myself blessed to have two well-behaved goats who are very personable and generally friendly.

We only had the two boys. My kid was really into the Dukes of Hazzard at the time, so they were Enos and Roscoe. Very sweet when they were little until hormones hit. I'm sure that was the problem. They moved over to a friend's place and one made "friends" with a pony.

Yeah, hormones can 'ruin' your relationship with many animals....

Actually, I think Enos stayed sweet. Roscoe was the one who was a pain. I have definitely had both good and bad roosters over time. My husband didn’t like the alarm clock function on any of them.

Speaking of gloves, I just ordered cut resistant ones. I say as I sit here with a band aid on my thumb from slicing the cukes for the salad on the mandolin last night.

I got one of those cheap food slicers for less than $30 - but that was also 30 years ago. They now sell for $60-$70. Anyway, I recently found the same type at a local thrift store for $2.00, so I bought it as a backup. I suppose a real chef could slice cucumbers paper thin and you could see through them, but I can't. But I can set the thickness of the cut on my food slicers and run them through the machine in no time. Best thing, of course, is that my fumble fingers never get close to the blade as I always use the safety push guard. Perfect slices every time and no no band aids required!

Yes, they didn't stay long after they started doing that. Should have had them cut, but we didn't. We later had an attack turkey named Buddy for a while. I had the boys giggling in the deer blind when I texting that i thought I accidentally killed him by knocking him in the head with a shovel in self defense. He was just knocked out for a bit and went back to his old ways. He got locked up after that.

My cousin has a rooster like that- she carries a board with her when outside and cracks him a good one when he tries to flog her- has knocked him out a couple of times. He acts right for awhile, then tries again. She won’t cull him- he is “special”. The kittens love him and rub on him, he stands on the porch and watches TV through the screen. When she turns it off, he leaves. Strange bird.

Nope have coop gloves bamboo ones for the coops then the garden gloves are part bamboo with the palms and fingers are neoprene..

It's important to have the proper tool for the job. Dear Wife goes crazy because I have like 6 different types of saws - all for different jobs - and she does not understand why just one saw cannot do everything.

On the top of my head, I also have and use the following types of gloves:
- plastic disposal gloves for wet work, food prep, dirty washing, etc...
- mechanics gloves for working on machines
- chainsaw gloves only used for operating the chainsaw
- leather gloves as my general purpose glove
- gloves without fingertips and/or removable finger tips, sometimes the best option
- winter gloves for the snowblower - warm weather
- long, half elbow length, thick mittens for snowblower - extreme cold
- glove liners for times I might need to take my winter gloves on/off a lot
- garden gloves for weed pulling and light work

Yeah, a broad breasted turkey with an attitude was like a mean rooster on a whole different level, and my daughter was pretty small. She could “peck” train an ornery rooster, but Buddy was too much. She’s going to be 11 next month. Think I need to update my profile picture?

I had a aunt in MO. bash a rooster with a galvanized bucket . Laid him out - killed him she thought . Set water to boil for scalding him . Went to get him and he was running around . Then she was twice as mad .
