What did you do in the garden today?

Picked the last of the peaches (small ones, I need to thin more next year) and a few cukes and tomatoes. Ate some blackberries but didn't bring any inside. Tomorrow I need to go around and flick watermelon in case any are ripe, the one I picked last week was not quite ready yet. Some are hard to get to this year without stepping on the vines.

Oh and I've been trying not to bring any more plants home but I did swap for a few walking onions, so some are in the ground and some are in pots to root.

I was thinking about all the genetics in my flock.... I've got:

Rhode Island Reds
Buff Orpingtons
Black Australorps
Ameracaunas
Blue Andalusians
Cream Legbar
Game Hens
Silkies
Starlight Greens
Prairie Bluebells

And with the new chicks, I just added:

Silverudd (Isbar)
Copper Marans
Jubilee Orpington
Olive Eggers

That a LOT of chickens. No wonder my feed bill is insane....

Braided the rest of the softneck garlic. Hardneck is still curing, as are the shallots. I was hoping for some small shallot bulbs to replant but they're all HUGE! @NewBoots are you saving any of your shallots to replant - I know you have the giant kind too.
I'll definitely save the little round gold ones, they aren't super easy to chop but they have a nice flavor. The giant ones didn't multiply this year, I got no more than 2 per planted bulb this year. That said, I will still plant some of them next season, it's hard to beat the giant shallots. And I keep finding more little round gold ones that I'd stuck in any open spot.

I cannot get caught up :) so I'll post quick before the tide washes me away.
@Elyrian1 - yes I meant to say sorry for the awful migraine. I do get auras frequently, but thankfully they don't go any further. I had ONE migraine my entire life & it was the worst pain. No noise, no light for 2 days - I never want to go thru that again so I always feel for people who do get them. :hugs
Before I retired I'd get the light shows (so hard to read a computer screen through the flashing) but not the headaches.
I'm not sure what's going on with my Cherokee Purple tomatoes. They are nowhere near any kind of size for canning. I have two that are turning color, so I'll pick them when they're ripe and see how they taste. If they're really tasty, I'll plant a couple next year, with the plan that they are cherry tomatoes, not canning size. I am bummed, but way worse things have happened.
I make sauce and salsa out of any tomatoes I have and the cherry tomatoes keep producing the longest.
Yes, we made 4 pints of salsa with our first batch of tomatoes & peppers.... But I have jalapenos, hot banana peppers, and anaheim peppers coming out my ears!
I've never grown anaheims but the ones I buy from the store are never hot, I roast them and put them on hamburgers. I want to make a bunch of cowboy candy and I only have a few assorted peppers so I caved in and bought a couple pounds of jalapenos. I'll add my assorted in with the jalapenos, some are sweets and some are hots so it'll make a nice mix.

Okay, time for bed, I'll try to get caught up tomorrow.

Again harvesting flowers for next arrangement, now is finally the lily time! Today just picked 3 varieties.

My lupines are still blossoming, especially those are in shade (only some indrect light), I am surprised that they can grow so well and last so long. For the ones planted under almost full light locations, I already started collecting seeds from the dried pods.

Started saving seeds from all kinds of flowers, from next year I will use those saved seed for the boarders and cut flower patches.

Too funny!
Our numbers fluctuate, and we’ve been up there too - but that is too many for our setup, and it’s only been that high when we have young chicks just joining the flock. But, with kid in 4H it’s a bit of a revolving door, with wanting to show at fair (and various rules on age/type/category) We can sell at the livestock auction to get a bit of cash. Thankfully the closest hatchery is 1.5 hours away, and the Meyer cheap random bins at their hatchery are over 3 hours away.

I'm at 7 chickens now. 3 hens, 3 pullets, and 1 roo. My coop could handle 11, but I don't want to have that many. I can see myself with 9 or 10. She said, with all seriousness.

I did swap for a few walking onions,
I like my Egyptian Walking Onions! I get green onions in the spring/early summer. The topsets are big this year; small for onions, but big for pearl type onions. I dig up some of the bulbs when I need bigger ones. I planted a bunch of the topsets last fall, and when they grow up next spring, the bed with be stuffed full.

I think you meant "cheep" bins.
