What did you do in the garden today?

Morning all! I have a regular wheelbarrow I use for cleaning the coops & moving small stuff - but we also have a small Kabota tractor & a large (super old) Case backhoe loader. I do just about everything with the Kabota - it's a life saver for my back.

I only wish I had equipment like that. In my limited case, I'd probably only use it once or twice a year for actual work. I'd probably end up driving them down the driveway to get mail from the mailbox just to show the neighbors my new equipment!

I don't have a tractor for my home. I don't live on a farm. But, I was price shopping a new small tractor with front end loader early this spring. Long story short, I decided that my riding lawn mower with tow behind carts was probably good enough to meet my limited needs. I am still considering getting an ATV with snow plow attachment for clearing snow in the winter, but we had an extremely light snow last year and I only used the snow blower about 3 times - and 2 of those times I could have just not bothered, but I wanted to run the blower and keep the gas fresh.

Speaking of that, most of my gas yard equipment does not get used enough to keep the gas fresh and the carb clean. Too many of my gas tools end up with clogged carbs. Over the past 10 years, I have replaced almost all of my gas outdoor tools with battery powered tools. The battery operated tools are not as powerful, but they just work every time I slap in a fresh battery.

I used to buy a new gas trimmer every 2 years. Since I switched over to battery trimmers, I have yet to replace any of them in 7+ years. They just keep on running.

For my limited needs, I have also gone with battery chainsaws. I have a nice Stihl gas chainsaw in the shed, but it only gets used maybe once or twice a year. It is to the point where it runs good for about 10-15 minutes, then floods itself out and it done for the day. Our local mechanic tells me it's a carb issue and their shop rate is about $80 minimum to check it out. So I just use my battery chainsaws for most cleanups around the house and they get the job done. I'm pretty much done with gas outdoor equipment and clogged carbs.

We have a tornado watch. Not that I’m especially worried, but it wasn’t a big warning, just a little note added to the weather app when I opened it. I kind of think it deserves more than just a “by the way.”

We were lucky to inherit the Kubota from DH's Dad when he passed. It does most of the snow plowing here. The Case was purchased to dig the foundation to put up the shop, then be sold. Uh yea, that didn't happen (I knew it would never leave)! We have a weird hobby of rock crawling/off roading so the Case comes in handy as a fork truck to move vehicles & trailers or move generators in/out of the Toterhome or onto the car trailers etc. We have a lot of heavy equipment that is much easier to move around with, well, heavy equipment.

nothing in the garden today....but yesterday I pulled out some sweet corn that was "done", trimmed up the sunflowers, turned some watermelons, and harvested some dried shelling beans. i will have to water at some point with all the dry weather--super hot and humid today

Good morning all.
My day 'off' and I hardly know what to do with myself.
My thumb still hurts like normal and the headache that came with the shot is pretty much gone, in the inability to sleep has not. Argh
I designed a reversible tote this morning and whipped one out. It's adorable. I might have to make a few more. LOL.
Heading out soon to pick the garden before we hit 100+. I think I'll start some cherry tomato plants and keep them going in the greenhouse beyond frost, maybe, or try.

I have modest sized snowblower that is power assisted so it’s pretty easy to push through a 2 foot snow, which is not uncommon here. I use Stabil gas treatment to help keep it running smoothly. I went 3 seasons before it needed a tuneup. My little garden tractor has a hookup for accessories but I don’t have any yet. As for the snowblower, I only use it unless the snow is over 6 inches. However, it’s a rare to get less than that.
