What did you do in the garden today?

I cut and processed 4 5 gallon buckets of apples from my orchard. I have 5 5 gallon buckets left to process. I still have tons of apples in the orchard. The chickens are loving them but I'm going to start taking some up the long, long driveway up to the barn where my piglets are so they can have some more.

My hawk was back sitting on the gate scaring the littles again yesterday.. And doing this as all the squirrels & chippes were running around. He needs to refocus. The dog brought us 2 itty bitty baby mice, he was a good boy.

I picked a bunch more tomatoes, they're coming out today as we're supposed to get a hard frost or even a freeze tonight. Yesterday I started bringing in plants - house plants, rosemary, etc. My shallots should be here today, they will go in the ground. Then tomorrow the dahlias should be done, I'll pull the bulbs this weekend.

I saw the littles sleeping in the corner, no longer under the brooder plate so I pulled it out last night. They are 5 weeks today & pretty much fully feathered. They are having a good old time being outside all the time.

Broken tiles? Really?? SMH.
?Tiles are really small on the backsplash. Not real noticable but since I was "inspecting" I found it. Just the fact it took so long to do such a small job, the GC didn't do her job correctly by not buying enough tile to begin with. The contractors being shuffled from one job to another before being finished so being pressured.
The construction business has been a mess for a while around here anyway, with TX being the fastest growing state and we are just south of Houston makes it worse. Throw in an unprecedented freeze in Feb. that left many homes with lots of water damage (we're not prepared for that stuff) then a hurricane a few weeks ago and we are shorthanded in the construction industry.
Still have people getting their houses back together from the Feb. freeze!

Good morning gardeners. I wasn't able to get any of the tulip bulbs in the ground yesterday. I'm hoping to get some of them planted today. I've got the laundry going and had thought to make bread, but I have enough for another week so I have one less excuse to attend to the tulip bulbs. Cooler temperatures are moving in today and overnight. It looks like frosty nights from here on. I'm hoping the leaves will hurry up and fall so I can clean them up and clean my gutters before the snow starts flying. Not much else going on. Good to hear your littles are doing well @Sueby.

I just watched a bald eagle soaring over my back yard for almost 5 minutes. I bet the big chickens were inviting him over too. Was cool to watch.

I got a lot done out there. Got the last of the sungolds picked - green ones & all. I'm sure they'll ripen good on the counter. Tore out the plants & into the compost pile. Got the lettuce hoop house covered, got the rest of the chicken run plastic up, got the heated waterers out, got the deck furniture in storage, got all the ties off the plants (mostly the dahlias) & all the stakes put away & all the things inside that need to be inside. & yesterday I moved 6 wheelbarrows full of dirt & brought in 4 loads of chips.

I don't think I need to pull in the hoses & winterize the outside spigots just yet. I'll have to watch the news & see just how cold it's going to be.
