What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. I'm enjoying another day of above freezing temps before the deep freeze moves in late tomorrow. I had started out hoping to find a four legged fur baby through a local Rescue and ended up with rescuing a vulnerable little dog from Craigs list. This poor little guy was listed as free, need to rehome. The owner was well intentioned but likely unaware that free animals listed on Craigs list are at high risk of becoming part of a puppy mill, used as a bait dog (or other animal, as this happens to other small animals listed for free), or someone's dinner. My DD came across this listing and contacted the owner and scooped him up right away. Max is about 5 years old and appears to be a Cairn Terrier / Shih Tzu mix. The poor little guy is suffering a broken heart trying to understand why his family ditched him. He is friendly and quiet and apparently likes to sleep late. He will be a fine addition to the Wee Farm. He seems very interested in the big garden and likes to "water" one of my lavender plants. LOL! He also loves the sunroom and likes to "roost" on the top of the sofa back and look out the window. That's all for gardening today. Have a great day everyone!

What handsome little guy! :hugs Thanks for giving him a home Sarah!

Grow Bags!! Might try some this year. But, where have you bought them? I know several people on here use them.

I am looking for grow bags to go along the east side of the extra chicken pen. Therefore I will plant those items that dont love heat there - maybe some turnips, for example (small salad ones), or maybe spinach or something else. They would get morning sun, maybe 6 hours of full sun, but not the intense afternoon hot sun. So I dont need very big ones.
I’ve purchased from Amazon but was able to find them just as cheap there as elsewhere. You have to weed through them sometimes to find a good deal.

Good afternoon gardeners. I did get much done outside today because we’ve been working on cleaning house today. The Christmas tree is bare, hubs will take it down this afternoon after work. I transplanted the pothos and put some glass pebbles in saucers under the parlor palms and trimmed the dead stuff off for the most part. I moved them to the North facing window also because I think they were getting too much light under the grow lights. I need to get some more soil so I can transplant this first palm, but I love this orange pot with the colorful glass pebbles under it. Have a great day all!

I love growing sweet potatoes. Skip the bags, get cheap laundry baskets/containers that you can reuse from dollar general and line with straw, and tiny hole HARDWARE cloth or you WILL get rodents in Ohio that will eat the tubers, and fill with dirt as you go up.
Sweet potatoes want consistent, DEEP watering. My grow containers for them are only 18 inches deep.
Good idea! Hmmm. Only 1 sweet potato per basket (I guess I’m thinking the smaller/short round ones)? Not sure what type of spacing they need. If I buy a rectangular short basket, what type of spacing? We have a good size roll of 1/4” HWC, so we will see how that works.

I would recommend using feed bags @Acre4Me. I bought grow bags last Spring and wasn’t too thrilled with them for what they cost. I grew poblano peppers in a feed bag and it grew quite nicely. I’m going to use more feed bags this Spring. Also, the grow bags have an expiration date after a few seasons.
Good idea - I have many feed bags. Have you ever gotten rodents in the bags?

I am making these cute Gnome ornaments. My sister-in-law said, “you’re a bit late, aren’t you?”!
I laughed and said, “ No, I’m getting an early start on next Christmas!” 🤣🤣
Wow did not realize my earlier post never was finished the sight had bruped about then..
I love the gnomes you made ...

I put one plant per 18-20 sq inches. You have to give those tubers room PLENTY of room.
I'm using upcycled recycling bins this year.
You could try a bag and a bin this year. Bin, make sure you drill holes in the bottom and put a hardware cloth piece inside over them. Water out, rodents out.

Planted a living Christmas tree, investing in the future 5-7 years from now 😂 Our work gave us holiday bags including this little greenhouse with seeds kit. So let's see what happens, should have a sprout in 19-25 days.

Also pulled out my seed tub and determined what needed to be ordered still. Hubby added a few more herbs to the garden list and kiddo is now obsessed with brussel sprouts so we are going to try them as well.
