Good morning gardeners. We're having some nice Spring like temps today and pretty much all week. The rain never manifested yesterday but we're forecasted to get rain and wind later today and into the overnight hours. I managed to get out into the main garden area and thin out the straw covering on the asparagus bed. I put a call into Dig Safe so I'll be able to start working on the fencing in a few days. I'm hoping the temperatures will stabilize soon and I can try re-integrating my rooster back with the girls as soon as the chicken yard expansion is completed. I forgot to mention that I found organic ginger at Trader Joe's last week. I plan on trying to grow some of it. I have had the experience of my laying hens just stopping for a couple of days @Acre4Me. Usually follows a big storm or some type of "event" that frightens them, like sudden loud noises, thunderstorms or a close passing by of a 4 legged predator. Has it warmed up enough for any snakes in your area to come out of their hibernation? Snakes like eggs. If it continues I would suggest putting a camera inside the coop where the nest boxes are. That way you can see what's happening. Just a thought. My other short term goal is to put the hoops and plastic over 2 of my raised beds in the big garden to warm up the soil and get some early crops planted.
