What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. We're having some nice Spring like temps today and pretty much all week. The rain never manifested yesterday but we're forecasted to get rain and wind later today and into the overnight hours. I managed to get out into the main garden area and thin out the straw covering on the asparagus bed. I put a call into Dig Safe so I'll be able to start working on the fencing in a few days. I'm hoping the temperatures will stabilize soon and I can try re-integrating my rooster back with the girls as soon as the chicken yard expansion is completed. I forgot to mention that I found organic ginger at Trader Joe's last week. I plan on trying to grow some of it. I have had the experience of my laying hens just stopping for a couple of days @Acre4Me. Usually follows a big storm or some type of "event" that frightens them, like sudden loud noises, thunderstorms or a close passing by of a 4 legged predator. Has it warmed up enough for any snakes in your area to come out of their hibernation? Snakes like eggs. If it continues I would suggest putting a camera inside the coop where the nest boxes are. That way you can see what's happening. Just a thought. My other short term goal is to put the hoops and plastic over 2 of my raised beds in the big garden to warm up the soil and get some early crops planted.

I just ran mine through the dishwasher, figure the heat during the dry cycle would sterilize them, but I could be wrong.
These "pots" are used cottage cheese containers. Years ago, I did try washing something like these in the dishwasher, and it melted a bit, so I'll do hand washing. They might not be the same kind of plastic, but :idunno Thanks to whomever mentioned Oxine! I'll look for that at TSC.

I looked, but didn't find any ginger at TJs two weeks ago. I was SURE I'd find it there, but nada. I suppose they could have been out, so I'll look again. Another possibility is I didn't look hard enough. 🤦‍♀️ I've never been in there before, and they were kind of busy.

Graced with snowfall last night with a lot of ice underneath.
It won't last. The sun angle is too high and we need every drop of moisture.

Planning on the seeding shed today. We'll see. I'd like to get this Tartan done and in the wash and in the mail. We'll see which one wins.
Tornadoes one day 8 inches of snow the next! :th

Honestly, I’ve never seen it in Trader Joe’s before. I’ve been wanting to get the organic ginger to try growing it. I thought I would have to go to Whole Foods to find it.

Quick updating on my little potted garden. Gave clear pics of some of the seeds that are growing. Some are fat roundish and long like these

One of the few good things about being in upstate Ny is the lack of tornadoes, and hurricanes, and general venomous creatures.
I wouldn’t be too sure of that there are 3 species of venomous snakes in upstate New York. There are also tornadoes there. We had an EF 4 tornado about ten years ago in south central and western Massachusetts. Just saying.

Sorry if I upset some folks with my comment about southern accents. I grew up in KY, and currently have my nieces, nephews, brothers and sister scattered across TX, VA, GA and FL, as well as AZ (which is not exactly south). When I pick up the phone to talk to them, my accent starts to drift. My local family says they can tell when I am talking to southern family just by listening to me!
I didn't see the original post, but I'm a mimic. Whatever I'm around, it starts coming out in about five minutes. British? Totally. Australian? Yup. Redneck in its various forms? That's my native language! Broken English as spoken by the lady from Vietnam? Oops, that too. I just hope and pray nobody ever thinks I'm mocking them. It's 100% pure instinct and not intentional. My husband's grandmother laughed her butt off once because I said something in Spanish. She asked me to repeat myself and then informed me I spoke Spanish with no accent whatsoever. Zero. She had fully expected and been looking forward to me speaking it with a Southern accent.

Today! Well to preface today, last night I crammed all the herb and veggie starts onto the lid of a storage tub and put them in my shower. It's the only place I've got right now that's safe from cats and the toddler. So, again, today! I must stick them back outside and water everything.

In addition to that are the expected chick chores. Clean out the water, give more food, add more bedding.

So we're trying an experiment. The old ring on a string test is a well-known wives tale for determining the gender of an unborn baby. Only, I've seen it be right 5 times in the 5 times I've seen it tried. So tried it on the chicks, marked the ones that turned up "boy" and we'll see what happens. Really hoping it's wrong, because it turned up 4 boys.

This is hilarious!

Hey all. Warm out there today, things are melting. Picking up what is frozen of the saw dust from the tree cutting. I wasn't sure what to do with it some went in the chicken run & I think they think it's food. So then the rest went in the compost. Which is rock solid frozen.

I took a walk thru the garden, very wet. I'm going to put up new hoops for the lettuce & maybe get some planted soon.

The chicken drama here today is killing me. :he Teenagers coming into lay are just as dramatic as real girl teenagers, I swear.
