What did you do in the garden today?

I think my carrots don't look like garden porn pictures because I don't thin them the way you are supposed to. Last year I left some carrots in the ground for nearly 6 months. The tops were huge...bushy...at least 18" tall. When I finally got around to pulling them, the carrots were maybe 6 inches long at best and as fat as my thumb. Disappointing.... But they sure did taste good and the buns enjoyed the tops!
You can leave some in the ground until the following year to collect seed at that point.

and some shade as well, lol. maybe I should try to plant carrots in containers in soft soil. I tried to pull a spring onion and broke it. I planted it in the softest soil I have and it has been raining lately. soon I will be digging them to get them out.
Soft soil in a pot would work. Yes, shade is good but if if you sow in late fall they should be ok in full sun. That’s how I grow them, no room in the shade garden.

I gave a broody 4 eggs to sit on - 1 Blue Andalusian, 3 Maran eggs. Another broody took over the nest. Since the new broody tends to be an aggressive mama, I just went out to move her into a brooder pen since her eggs should be due this Wed. Supposed to storm the next few days so I thought I'd do it now while it's nice outside. I got her all moved into the pen by gently and slowly moving the box she's in. I covered the front with a slip of cardboard so she couldn't see me and freak out. Afterwards, I went to go get some food & water to put in the pen. When I came back with the goods, to my ultimate surprise...there's a newly hatched chick! Looks like it came from a Maran egg.... :celebrate

Winds are howling here still. 40mph
welcome rains coming
Lost an hour this morning trying to create and print an international shipping label and custom form. NOTHING on the USPS site was working and there is no back page, everything needs retyped over and over when their site has internal programming errors. Now I have to drive back into the city, as our village has no custom forms. I AM livid.
Will sow my tomato seeds in their cups tomorrow and will also do my marigolds for the hoop house.
I'm in the mood to plant, but not at the same time.

Gorgeous day!

Warm, sunny, blue skies, light breeze.

Received the spring garlic I bought yo plant (forgot I ordered it). So it is planted and I now have a whole lot of garlic planted.

Prepped a bed for potatoes, so I’ll be planting those today. Hopefully can weed the two beds with plastic. The weeds are so happy under the plastic, they gotta go.
