What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. The wind has lessened considerably to breezy conditions, it’s really nice in the shade on the patio. I got some Velcro tape so I could use it to hold up the Carolina jessamine until it grows enough to latch onto the trellis. The wind keeps blowing it over and it never has a chance to grab hold. I also got the 75 foot soaker hose today :yesss: I trimmed the dead ends off the chaste trees and watered them. Right now they’re on the edge of the patio in the dog yard which gets some pretty intense summer Sun, but there’s coco coir mixed with soil in the pots so I don’t think they’ll need anything underneath. If so I’ll have to figure something out.

As you can see I’ve neglected the grass 😔 Another reason I need a hose timer! If all I have to do is remember to move a hose to a soaker or put the sprinkler in the yard I’d be in good shape!

HOWLING 45-50 mph winds coming tonight and tomorrow, rain , thunderstorms, and then snow. LOL. Nebraska, eh? I'll have to pull the mums from the hoop house for a few days and I'll put a insulating panel over the pea seeds.
The tomatoes and the marigold seeds for my own garden are now started. When those are up and settled, I'll get the 'for sale' stuff going on the heat mats.
An INSANE number of song birds came in today. Now with rain on our doorstep, they're all singing like mad.

Wind is scary, I truly hate the wind. 🌪️

You guys I really love that shredder! It has taken several loads of twigs and branches down to not quite a wheelbarrow full of shredded material. The oldest grandson did todays batch, he got a huge grin when I asked if he wanted to run it. Unfortunately he found an egg and it popped :sick Good thing we have a breeze lol

I'm 70 pages behind... Not bothering to catch up, sorry. I've been way too busy lately on everything but the garden. However, I went today after work to Menards and got the the mulch and landscape timbers for the new flower bed that will border the garden fence. DW is going to get a bunch of failed starts replanted with new trays and new dirt tomorrow. Yesterday I picked up five dormant rose bushes for the side of the house and two statues of a boy and a girl laying down and reading a book for each side of the garden gate. It's some sort of progress...

I was just thinking about you this afternoon and wondering if all is well, good to see you!

I went to the feed store to buy rabbit & chicken feed. They finally had Cornish cross chicks. I bought 5. Almost didn’t because of bird flu but there haven’t been any cases near our county or any of the counties near us. So… hopefully I’m good.
Planted 45 Walla Walla onion starts. (none of my seeds came up 😞) then I used some of the wood chips to mulch around them after I watered them in. Now it’s raining a good steady rain so I could have skipped the watering. 🤣
I took some of my tomato starts outside and put them on an outdoor book shelf. It got up to 76 today. It felt hotter. The low tonight is supposed to be 51. Should I bring them in for the night?
I did get another trunk load of branches chipped up today!
My friend’s dad disked the garden plot at the farm today so now I can start working on that garden. I figure I can go ahead and plant onions and potatoes. Plus figure out where to put the 2 raised beds and get them built.
Edited to add: Google says tomatoes don’t like it under 50 so I brought them back inside. 51 is too close to “under 50”.

lost all of tomato seedlings. I don't have the proper set up for them in the house so lack of light and cold killed them. luckily I have the seeds, some indeterminate red (for salad and cooking) and yellow pear. feher peppers sprouted and in 2 days I'll be able to take them out. I hope they survive till then. I am going to plant 2 other varieties of peppers, florina's (greek red horn) and red bell. I prefer red peppers. there are some green hybrids that remain green but I don't lake their taste.
