What did you do in the garden today?

I am thinking of buying Rhubarb. Pros/cons?

Some places are sold out, some places have them in stock. Gurneys has some online - I know Gurneys has some issues with shipping, and some on here have had issues. But, was thinking of buying some rhubarb from them - thoughts?

Any other sources?

Good varieties?
Not sure as I do t grow it, you may already know, but it toxic to your flock so make sure they can’t get too it!!!

I came across these at the Dollar Tree. I'm going to write on them with a white paint pen (the Sharpie pen) and use them in the garden. Will be interesting to see if they hold up.

What details do you all usually write on your garden tags?

I typically write:
Plant identification (Cosmic carrots, Roma tomatoes, Peaches and Cream sweet corn, etc)
Harvest Date (approx)

In years past I tried to write this info with permanent marker but it always wears off. I could try laminated paper but I don't want to buy a laminator.
When I have to laminate something I use shipping tape. It works great.

I have better luck getting started plants from a local greenhouse over the bare root stock all packaged up in the store. Variety dependson what you like and what you plan to do with it. But most all are interchangeable recipe wjse.

Tractor supply orscheln bomgaars, in little cardboard tubes. Had fine luck with those.

Think I'm falling into a biweekly garden update, lol. Watering things daily or twice daily even. My grape vine is coming back, and the honeysuckle is coming back. I'm waiting for a sign of life from the jasmine I planted still. I have a few tomatoes coming up, not nearly what I planted though. Radish... I swear every seed I dropped is popping up now. Garlic is going strong, as are the collards! I'm excited about those.

The chickies are starting to come running when called. It's a good sign, lol!

Trimmed the passion fruit - its winter harvest is about done. Picked a couple fennel and an onion. The sungold tomato I chopped back awhile ago is sprouting new leaves so I managed not to kill it. Split the aviary in half and moved the January hatch over there so I can pack up the crate they were in. I'll leave the wire up for a week then they can mingle with the older quail. It's a nice sunny day for a dust bath after the rain.

I got 3 of the 5 ground frames built for the hoop house redo. There's 2 more to build along with the door frame but DH and I want to get the posts in the ground and everything squared up for a final measurement before we cut anything! I'm so excited and anxious though! Each year I learn a ton of new things which brings measurable improvements to my harvest and gardening experience. I'm interested to see how these changes work out!

My San Marzano starts have sprouted! I was hoping to find live starts but could only find seeds so they are 5 weeks behind the other seedlings.

Tomorrow we are expecting some wicked weather... Thunderstorms, tornados, hail, and wind gusts up to 50 mph... So I brought all my plant starts into the garage along with the plastic cover on that little greenhouse I just got. Didn't want to risk it getting picked up and thrown.

Stay safe in that weather!
