What did you do in the garden today?

Hi all, I literally have one minute left on my break. I went out to check on things in the shade garden today. Both tomato plants look great so I put a couple of stakes in there for them. The star jessamine in the central trellis is blooming and the beans and cukes look good too. :yesss:Have a great day all!
I am INSANELY jealous. You can already have tomatoes out!!!! That's incredible!!

Got out this morning and managed to get all my chores done. Watered the garden really late yesterday and it was still damp so I'll wait until this afternoon to hit it again. I'm still watching the first batch of chicks to figure out who will be headed off to freezer camp later this year. Need to order some leg bands so when little dudes start crowing I can mark them and have no confusion. The thing that's messing me up is that nobody has pointy neck or saddle feathers yet, and I look to those and crowing as my final confirmation.

I started a batch of feed fermenting this morning and stuck the bucket where it won't get much sunlight. I need to talk to DH about getting a crate insulated or something to keep the worst of the heat off. I'd bring it in the house but I've got a sensitive nose and I think it might drive me crazy. I don't know. Maybe we could put it in the pantry, it wouldn't hurt anything in there. Eh, we'll see. But it needs to happen tonight, because we're in the 90s for the next four days and I don't want to hyper ferment it and have drunk chickens out there or some such nonsense, lol.

This is what the squirrel does every day. :smackI finally gave in & covered all the beds. Maybe the onions will start to grow now that they won't be trampled all the time.

My grandfather always grew sugar cane and turned it into cane syrup. Old family friend asked for the ground up canes for uh, reasons... But he didn't get around to processing it and it sat and fermented up nice and ripe. Then his goats got out, ate it ALL, and were fall-down drunk by the time he found them.
Now see? I can see a goat being a MEAN drunk.
Gee what on 98 proof could he possibly have wanted with the canes? LOL

I cover my herb gardens with leaves in the Autumn @Sueby. They all do well under several inches of the leaves. The primary concern with the herbs is to keep their roots protected. I have 2 large containers of rosemary that I put in the center of each of those round beds once the weather has warmed up sufficiently. I picked up wood for the last semi raised garden bed. DD will be constructing it tomorrow. I was going to use landscape timbers but found pt boards for a surprisingly decent price. I also picked up a few flowers for color in front of the chicken yard. I’m still trying to take it easy for now and resting up before all the work I’m hoping to tackle next week.
