What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. A little chilly this morning down to 35F. Warming to the low 60’s today and all week. Fingers crossed 🤞. Laundry day, but I should be able to do a little work outside. I need to prune the big butterfly bush back severely. I’m hoping to plant kale and carrot seeds under my little bed cover. Still trying to take it easy with my left arm so I can get working on the chicken yard in a day or two. I noticed the hawks have returned. Yesterday, late afternoon DD and I were outside with the dogs when she looked up and said “hawk.” I looked and there were at least 6 circling over head. I got my little 12 pound buddy indoors quickly. I guess that’s a sure sign of Spring.

@Wee Farmer Sarah - I must have missed that you hurt your arm. I hope you heal quickly!

@TJAnonymous how is DH?

@WthrLady how is your Dad? & sister?

Chilly, but nice out today. Back to work though, Mondays stink. I did thin the lettuce yesterday & put a new cover on my walking onions to keep the dang squirrels out. It was my compost sifter, but I never sift compost so it works well on the bed till they get big enough to hold up to squirrel trampling. Got the compost turned too.

Hi everyone! Looks to start out a nice day. Might get the cold hardy starts outside for an hour or two to start hardening them off. Was supposed to be scattered showers starting Wed, but I checked the forecast this morning and the rain begins tonight all the way through the weekend. 😡 I truly can’t stand this. Last year we lost half our crop to rain overload. I have raised beds and hilled rows, and there were literal puddles in the walkways the entire summer.

Really want to get some peas in the ground and move the greens outside this week so I can repot my quickly growing tomatoes, but I can’t see how to do this with the forecast. I have 3 grow lights and have no room to expand indoors.

Ideas? Should I wait on the peas? I can’t take too much more of this. I’d rather have to get up early & water every day…at least you can correct dry. You can’t make it less wet. 😞

We are supposed to get storms next 3 days...reckon the stuff I seeded in raised bed yesterday will be ok? Thought bout trying to cover but figured the frost cloth was too flimsy and would be worse on top of it than just letting it go.
What did you seed? I generally cover with a layer of straw, it helps the seeds from washing away.

Thanks for asking - she's loosing her mind - but she's that type. She feels she needs to control every situation and be in every situation to control it and her world, if that makes sense.
He's conscious, has pneumonia (being treated),infection in his shoulder socket (being treated), still needs triple bypass-which docs said he can have with all the infections, still having a machine do all the heart work.
Sis says he's there mentally -they were worried after 8 minutes of ICU CPR.
I'm done worrying. I'm too far to do anything-things that should have been done a while ago. What will be will be.

Wait @Wee Farmer Sarah hurt her arm?! How'd I miss that? YOU OK?

Have the day off - so am going to move soil at the neighbors for them. They were filling a utility trench by hand. Going over with the tractor.

HUGE storms tomorrow, so I'll be working.

I have a hose spigot I need to take apart and repair. The siphon went. I also need to cut off an old extender on it. It's been stuck on there for 6 years and I'm sick of it.

Robin showed up last night. He has sights on the spot in the wisteria again. He was one the deck singing like mad last night, lookin for a woman.

Egg production is down 30% with flockdown. ARGH at EASTER, running low on eggs. Saturday is 3 weeks since anything "local" has been detected. Freedom day. It's also the day it's supposed to snow. LOL. I have two more of these awesome saddles on order. OC I have no roo anymore, but I have a mean feather puller that will go after the bald girls until they heal, so saddles it is. I'll order a new roo in a few weeks. I'm trying decide on the breed. (I have a banner breeder.)

I have to put a square of chicken wire on seedlings to keep the chickens and cats/dogs from digging everything up.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I heard about the flu & egg prices on the national new last night. DH & I kept wondering why all these culled chickens & turkeys hadn't made much news yet. It's for sure going to make prices go up & availability will probably be sketchy.

Can you put some kind of temporary roof over it?
