What did you do in the garden today?

I am so envious! We love artichokes and just about everyone out here grows them, ours aren't doing much yet and I think the mostly sand soil we have is too poor for them to do much. The plants are so handsome, they seem like good ornamentals if nothing else.

Never! I just got busy here with non-garden stuff and oh my gosh this thread grows so fast, it felt like jumping onto a fast moving conveyer belt. Penny (our rescue pupper) is really coming along. She is so much calmer on our walks, she actually ignores most non-us humans now. She's still pretty nuts when she's in the house though, still convinced it's her job to repel all boarders. We both love her so much anyway, I swear I didn't think I'd love another dog this much.

Hitchhiker's Guide for the win!
They are heavy feeders. Try feeding them every two weeks during the growing season, even some blue juice is fine. I put down a good three inches of compost from the base of the plant to about three feet out. When I saw flowers I gave them Jobes every two weeks.

Got outside with our contractor friend, who is going to help us fence in the garden & make a “correct” gate lol. I put old temporary small fencing around the pea and onion planting sites I want to plant this week so the dogs can’t run through once I do seed them…between the mini-hail, snow, and rain I had 20 minute spurts of sun. Oddest weather ever…🙄

Hubs took me to Home Depot today. I grabbed a couple bags of bark mulch to put under the yellow bells and bells of fire next to the shade garden. I’m going to move all the gnomes out there so I have more room under the shade. I need a couple more bags of mulch and a few more blocks to finish that up, tomorrow. It’s hot and I’m feeling gross. I got four bags of dirt moved to the garden, and also picked up some compost and a couple bags of seed topper for the lawn. The bougainvillea shaded a spot which was fine, but it dropped a lot of flowers there and the grass hasn’t grown back this year. I decided not to use posts for the tomatoes, instead I’ll get hubs to run some string from the beams up top. Wh n I add the compost I’ll be pulling weeds at the same time, there’s something in there that is a serious pain in the you know what and it has been a huge battle, I might use the shovel and shave the top of the soil and see if that helps eradicate it. The chicks are getting big and looking like chickens. They’re in the almost done growing in feathers stage so not quite pretty yet. The two Nn are gingers. The SS have quite a bit of white in them and Icarus is already giving warnings to the girls. I let them out today, only the second time, but they seem to enjoy the freedom.

Its been very annoying. Did manage a walk around part of the property while the sun shined, but it started hailing when we got back to the house.

Frost last night but squash looks great!
I remembered today it is an early squash which is why it got planted early! Lol
It warmed up fast today and has been gorgeous! High 70s!
So got quite a bit planted!
Kale transplanted and seeded outside so I'll have 2 batches. Lettuce transplanted. Spinach seeded. Onions planted. Morning glories seeded behind raised bed so it will grow up deck posts.
Sweet peas seeded inside. Grow light came in so gonna set it up tonight!
Noting to not fool with seeding Lettuce, Spinach, kale inside next year!

SELLING TOMATO STARTS!! I couldn't believe it. May 15th is the EARLIEST you could get them in the ground here and you still have to watch them. June 1 is fairly solid.

AND they're selling a 5 inch tall SINGLE plant for $4.99
I've seen them here too, at the grocery. Ya gotta be kidding me. $4.78 each. SMH!
some blue juice
What is this?

Got a lot done today, and I bet I'll feel it tomorrow, but too bad, too much to do. I got the enlarged blueberry plot fenced in. I reused the fence that was there (2x3 welded wire) and another piece I had, but was about 3' short. Or, as DH put it, So you're 3' short of a fence? I have 2 new full rolls for the main garden, so I took down some of the pieced together stuff and put up part of a new roll.

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to go dig up at least one of the two apple trees my neighbor is giving me, and move it (or them) to their new home. I plan to put a bunch of compost into the holes I've dug first. When I'm out and about on Wednesday, I'll stop at the garden store and get some fruit tree food.
