What did you do in the garden today?

Not sure yet what I'm planting this year. Tomatoes and peppers, probably will try carrots and green beans again, radishes and then. Ot sure. Probably will still attempt zucchini and summer squash. Shouldn't be this hard, imo.
We’ve had bad luck with tomatoes the past two seasons, but other people near us did great. Some guy planted directly into manure and his stuff blew up. I don’t believe it was composted, or at least not very long. Some of the largest plants (vegetation, not sure about fruits) I’ve ever seen.

I wish you the best with your plants. Did they just not take off? Mold/etc?

I had to keep them in the green house too long. We had some super strange weather at the beginning of spring, and I just could not get them in. I have started having better luck with my tomatoes once I learned to stop overhead watering them.... I was losing every one that way. I'm hoping for a great crop so I can can some sauce. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Snuck out early and watered the hoop house and installed a fan to help move air in the 100 degree temps we're about to get.

Turned on the at-ground irrigation for the rest of the garden while I was out there.

Tomatoes are due for a pruning, but I'll wait until this heat wave this week passes to stress them. Then I'll prune and feed them again.

I've got potato plants flowering in the hoophouse, cute little white flowers.

All the neighbors are out mowing to beat the heat. I'll pass this week and start to mow at 4 inches next week. At $30 a go, I'll mow less often.

Good morning gardeners! It’s pretty gross here already, but we are done outside for the most part. Put fresh pine shavings in the coop, helped hubs build the shade cover for the feeding area and cleaned up the mess from the bunnies. I still need to level the floor in the mini coop and finish filling in a couple of holes. That’ll have to wait until another morning. I’m reusing a few blocks to make a platform for my solar cooker and doing the shed again and the patio first. So many things to do and such a short window to get it done this time of year. We’re supposed to have a couple of cooler days so maybe I can try getting stuff done in the evening too. Here’s a couple snaps of the chicken yard. The frame for the shade on top is from an old patio swing, Hubs put some screws in it so it won’t come apart, then we wired some lattice I recycled from my folks many years ago and we covered with shade cloth. It was just resting against the house like a lean to for a few years but the chickens were using it to get up on the wall to survey the rest of the neighborhood. Now it’s wired to the stakes and it’s tall enough that I can go under it for maintenance. The chairs are strategically placed under the tree so the chickens can eat leaves. All my chickens have loved that tree.

Good afternoon all. I got my errands run and the ice out for the chickens in about an hour. I was blessed twice with a shady spot to park. The only thing that does is keep the seat and steering wheel from blistering your skin you touch them, but it’s still a blessing. I did nothing strenuous but I was soaked and had to change my shirt when I was done. The fruit trees are looking rough, might need to give them more water again in the morning.

I'm going to try your ice trick today! I filled my giant cubes tray that I usually use to freeze chicken stock and eggs in last night. Will be cute seeing how they respond to it😃
I bought this Galanga plant from Ebay. They sent me 3 small roots and it took a while to sprout and grow. Now that it is established, its rapidly multiplying.

I bought this plant to use with a Thai chicken soup recipe that I found on YouTube, and they don't sell it in my local super market. Although I had this plant for around 2 years, I have never tasted it. Now that I have the main ingredients growing in my yard to make the soup, I should make it to see if the Galanga makes a big difference in taste.

Never heard of galangal but love Thai food so going to Google it. What pretty plants!

I keep looking at my poor papayas and wondering if there's any chance for them to fruit. I oopsed last winter and didn't cover it well enough on one of the few nights we got too cold. The tip died on all of them and they're regrowing with side branches. Anyone know anything about papayas?

My flock likes the cubes for water and blocks to stand on lol. They really are adorable when they first check it out!

Galanga grow and look like ginger, but they say it taste different. I haven't tasted it yet....... :)

You can use a flowering type fertilizer to stimulate your trees to bear fruit. I use a little 10-30-10 or 10-20-20 monthly around the drip line to support fruiting. If you fertilize next to the stem, their leaves will burn.
