I was wondering if yogurt will make heritage chicken breeds tender? I am going to make an Indian style yogurt curry with a 5lbs dressed Jersey Giant hen to see if it does.
Let us know how it turns out! Sounds yummy 🤤

I spent the morning working on my longevity spinach patch. It's not my favorite veggie, but my chickens love it and it thrives in our summer heat. Well....normally. I've grown it for years and years, yet somehow I managed to almost kill it this year. It took frost damage over the winter and I over watered it twice in the last month.

Hard to believe that this was a dense green mass last year.☹️

So I cleaned it up, added some compost but didn't dig it in like I should have. Started to but my foot said no to that. So I left it on top and put some big planters around it for shade and humidity. Then added some rocks to protect it while it tries to recover. I think it's dried out enough at this point to have a chance. I took a couple cuttings just in case I loose it completely. I took some cuttings in the spring and had them growing good but the rock squirrels got them...so I put them in a different spot. Wish my poor abused plant some luck!

BT spray for the caterpillars and borax powder (away from the plants) when you have a couple dry days in a row for the ants. It doesn't take much. sprinkle it on the mounds. It poisons the whole colony. They take it as candy down in the next. 20 mule team in the laundry row.
Exactly what I was going to say.
I'm soooo eating him.
I'm sorry but this made me giggle a little bit (and I appreciate that right about now). Sorry about the POL pullet though.

I got peppers! Thankfully the garden store had a pretty good variety of hotter types still. I got 12 habanero, 4 tobasco (never grown them) & 4 jalapeno. That should make a good batch of hot sauce. DH got out of work at noon so I made him plant them. :gig (and replant as his rows were sloppy & didn't work with my supports, LOL)

I got the strawberries trimmed & washed & freezing on a cookie sheet till jam time.

Why not near the plants? Just wondering

Storms (the rare Double Derecho) went very slightly North and very slightly east of us. My adult kid was up bc works night shift and said we got lots of lightening, some wind, some rain, but not excessive. I drove north this morning, about 10 miles, and many branches down, but that was it in that area. So my garden is just fine!

** Public Notice to my Chickens **

Tomorrow is your 16 week hatch-day.
Start laying eggs!
(I'm looking at you, high production layers)
That is all.
