What did you do in the garden today?

@WthrLady why did they take you off all meds? You already had your testing, right? :hugs That must be torture.

I filled in around all but the few short really short potato plants. They are looking good!

So are the tomatoes. The plants aren't very tall yet, but the stems and leaves look healthy and robust. Lot of them have flower buds too.

The store bought pepper plants looks good. One of the jalapenos has tiny flower buds. My starts are still alive, but are tiny compared to the purchased ones.

I cut about half of the garlic scapes. I read that you should cut them when the curl makes a full rotation.

Still waiting for the storm. I have no doubt that the heat will be here tomorrow.
My tomatoes sound the same & I came home yesterday to scapes ready to cut!

And anyone have any recommendations on what to plant in a raised bed AFTER onions and garlic?
I always plant more squash when I pull those - the bugs have had their way with the original plants & the 2nd round always does much better.

I was happy to see that my bay leaf trees are branching. I removed all the leaves early this spring to force branching and they're starting to look good again.
I keep meaning to look up how bay would do here, I would love to plant one! Thanks for the reminder.

Morning all. Got a good nights sleep. I got everything in the garden fed last night & we are in for some warm weather this week so hopefully everything takes off. The peppers are a bit pathetic. I still need to see if I can find more. Onions are forming bulbs now. Still picking strawberries with no sign of any baby bunnies left. No sign of squash bugs, netting is working so far but it's early yet. 🤞

I remember in 1975, while I was a senior in High School, my uncle kicked me out of his algebra class for fooling around. I told him I took algebra in summer school and didn't need it, so he sent me to a higher level geometry class. He told the principle we were family and didn't want to create any problems, so the principle agreed.

My geometry teacher turn out to be one of my football coaches, and there so happen to be a gas shortage during that time and the gas station lines were very long, so at the beginning of every class week, I would be sent on a special detention assignment.

Fill up gas and buy lunch for after class answer session...........and when ever I took a test, I was told to leave the answers that I don't know blank.

Anyway, I think we are headed for a gas shortage like we have seen in the past.
  • That gas crisis resulted from an oil embargo imposed by members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) and led to fuel shortages and sky-high prices throughout much of the decade. For a time, we could only get gas on even or odd days (your license plate number).

Who remembers the Gas Shortages in the 1970s? | Pamela Frost
I remember the “shortages” What a load of BS all of that was then and is now. Greed is the motivation. Lots of greed. Otherwise diesel, THE LEAST REFINED of fuels, wouldn’t cost more than a gallon of regular. But every truck, ship and train runs on it, so the price is higher, and that eventually goes to the consumer. Greed and corruption.

Ate the 1st tomato! 🍅 😋 ♥️

It was a little cherry tomato & my sweetheart gave to me, so I said let's split it, & we did, right there in the garden with a kiss. Yup, so corny right? 😆 But it was so sweet! The tomato was sweet & so was the entire little romantic garden moment. ❤️ It's these little things in life that I cherish so much.

Just picked a big ole basket of strawberries. Enough for some jam. I'll have to pick some rhubarb. Probably freeze everything for now & can later when life slows down a bit & the rest of the berries ripen.

They don't work on me and make me an anxious wreck as they build up in my system.

Kansas smoke is thick here today. 82 at 8am, humid too, but the wind is howling at 35mph so no spraying today.
Maybe will run into the village for a tiny bit, or maybe tomorrow.
Holding pattern with the garden, nothing but weeding, feeding, pruning and bug checking.
Maybe another two weeks on the potatoes. I need to check the date I put on the tag.

Why do I have beaded mud mounds in my potatoes? Is something eating them?
Hi there. Welcome to the thread! The OP hasn’t been on in quite some time, but there are a LOT of knowledgeable folks here who can help with questions, appreciate getting info from others, and we love garden pics!
