Two of the varieties are bred for pickling ("Boston Pickling" and "National Pickling") so vinegar will definitely be involved. But the third bigger one is a slicer ("Marketmore Select"), so yeah...we'll certainly be looking for some creative ideas for using the ridiculous amounts of them we'll be getting.looks like cucumbers in white sauce (or vinegar if you prefer) time! I heard, but haven't tried it yet, that there is a cold cucumber soup that is good. Maybe that might be something to try?! Yeah, I've seen several variations on that. Definitely something worth checking out, especially during the heat of summer.I heard, but haven't tried it yet, that there is a cold cucumber soup that is good. Maybe that might be something to try?! Lots of minty cucumber water.
I planted some Boston pickling cukes too! Of course pickles & sour cream cucumber salad & my favorite use - cucumber bread! It's like squash bread, but with cukes. I had no idea it was a thing till I googled what to do with all the extra cukes. Two of the varieties are bred for pickling ("Boston Pickling" and "National Pickling") so vinegar will definitely be involved. This is a tiny town and we don't want to make enemies of our next door neighbors. And he was as good as his word and worked on the fence all day yesterday, and no incursions since.Next time it gets in the yard, it belong to the county pick up. If they have to start paying to get it back they'll either surrender it, or take care of the problem.
Recipe please? Those sound great. And grats on having tomatoes so early, we're still a long way off.I'm making a bunch of egg bites in the Instant Pot this morning with tomatoes, broccoli, onions, cheese, and sausage. Eggs, onion, and broccoli are my own farm/garden raised. Looking forward to fresh tomatoes but they aren't ready yet. Another week, I think, at the earliest.
That's a Monarda or Bee Balm, it's a wonderful addition to a vegetable and fruit garden. And you reminded me I forgot to add it this year.I was off to check on the chickens a little while ago when I noticed a vibrant red flower in bloom! I said to myself, "What weed could that be?!" ...Well my mint plants were both in bloom covered with bees, butterflies, and a dragonfly. Here is a pic of the flower which caught my eye!
