What did you do in the garden today?

Well 1 container of potatoes gone...stinkin critter dug up entire plant and left me the skins off the potatoes it ate!!!
Ugh...

Oh no! That's the worst! We had some issues with squirrels this year and I started noticing popcorn around the yard so I need to hurry up and harvest that before they eat all of it, lol.

Oh wow TJ, he really is a gorgeous boy! I would want babies from him too.
That picture doesn't even do him justice. I need to get a better one. He has white lacing on his breast but the feathers on his wings and back are a gorgeous mix of green, purple, rust, cream, and tan. His hackles and saddle feathers are cream and his tail feathers are green. He really is quite stunning.

My shade clothes are up with steel turnbuckles and into 4x4x10 foot posts, sunk in concrete to 34 inches down. I use steel anchor wires and even then one snapped yesterday. Upgrading to chain today. If the wind EVER blows, over-engineer your anchor system.
That probably makes sense for your location. I've been floored by some of the wind speeds you've posted. Ours are typically between 5 - 7 mph. Even in bad weather, they rarely get above 30 mph.

I got about 2 dozen cherry tomatoes today and a couple Prairie Fire and Romas. The majority of the Romas will be ripening in the next few days, I think. I noticed my volunteer tomatoes from last year's plants have started fruiting too... 😊

I picked 5 or 6 stalks from the broccolini, and handful of pepperoncinos, green beans, and butterfly peas.

Still no female zucchini flowers.

I've also been trying HARD to run off a pair of hawks (? Maybe falcons?) who've decided to build a nest in the giant oaks around my pasture. For 3 days now I've been shooting off bottle rockets at them. Hasn't scared them off permanently though. I really really don't want to keep my chickens from free-ranging all summer. I just wish these damn birds would move on. So far I don't think they have attacked any of my birds but I know it's a matter of time when they have chicks to feed.

Welp I'm officially worst wife eva....
Get tired of DH complaining bout this ache and that ache and finally told him to get over it and do something cuz I never "feel" good with all my health problems yet I've chosen to live...finally!
So he got up and did stuff with grandsons all weekend. Then to top it off he helped me move a cucumber plant that decided to live and attack tomatoes and onions and okra and basil. Then we ran outta wood chips and mulch so i was frustrated cuz my area is always half done.
So told him as we left church I thought I needed 5 more bags of bark/mulch.
He disagreed and said not necessary.
Then he works on his backup camera on truck, goes to lowes and unloads 5 bags!
I said thank ya and he went inside.
Then he comes back out and not only helped me but he also drilled holes and hammered pins in for the wood strip walkway.
Reason I feel badly and worse wife eva?
Cuz he went inside and took a covid test...positive.
Then he took another...positive.
Yeah I'm worst wife eva.
But don't it look so much better!!!

I get my olive eggers direct from the originators of the breed, Chicken Scratch Poultry.
Larry and Angie have the best birds I've ever owned. They've all been beautifully mannered and bred. Some of my tractor store chicks have grown up into real turds.
Just looked them up. Wow, is all I can say. I might order hatching eggs from them next spring. No way I can order anywhere near 16 chicks, their min for guaranteeing live delivery. Well, if my neighbor wants to split and order...
Questions, help please:
I dug up my hard neck garlic today. When I did, I damaged one with the spade, I don't need to use it right now, my question is how can I save/store it damaged?
Another question is that one of the garlic heads in the back had a completely dried out stem, how can I save/store it?
If I damage garlic when digging, I separate the cloves, wash them, let them dry on paper towel, and store them in the fridge. Any thing that doesn't wash clean gets tossed.

Not sure what you mean about the dried out stem. Can you take a picture?

Very true. Mine is in a suburban backyard and while we do get wind, it’s not like yours. Now if I lived in SoCal, it would be a different story!
