What did you do in the garden today?

I wish I had maters so I could make a BLT. I just looove BLTs. That sounds like a great idea for the cukes, I may have to steal it & adapt it to low carb somehow. Do you follow any type of recipe?

@Acre4Me that is such a bummer & surprises me too. Last year my suyos held out really well with the beetles/wilt which is why I planted them again this year. Well that & who doesn't love a foot & a half long cuke, lol.

It is just unbearable out there, can't wait for this heat wave to be over. The chickens have dug so deep I almost couldn't even find them! But I have a batch of salted caramel ice cream in the ice cream maker. :drool

Dug up some onions & picked beans for dinner. That's all I have in me to do outside.
Oooo.... That ice cream sounds heavenly! I love salted caramel!

As for the BLTs, I'm definitely looking forward to them! DH wanted something for dinner that didn't involve grilling or standing over a hot stove. I pulled two giant Sart Roloise beefsteak tomatoes from the garden yesterday. So I suggested BLTs and he jumped on it.

Here's the recipe I found for the Buffalo fried pickles. Looking forward to these too!

Good afternoon gardeners. Day 6 of this heat wave. I watered everything this morning. The garden is looking good. Did I mention that the summer squash seeds I planted are coming up finally and the third cucumber seed I planted is coming up too. DD came up with a plan for Sunday dinner that requires very little cooking. Hot dogs with sides. She brought the hotdogs, I made the sides that only required cooking the potatoes for potato salad. Then I made a Mediterranean style chopped vegetable salad with some bulgur tossed in for a little extra fiber. That and fresh strawberries for dessert. Yum. Fingers crossed but we may get some beneficial rain in the morning and the high for tomorrow’s is only expected to hit 88F. Still planning on meals requiring minimal cooking this week. Hoping some of the tomatoes ripen for more no cook meals.

Hello everyone! Pulled the bottom blight leaves off my tomatoes. I finally have a few red ones for dinner tonight! Picked a pepper, a couple onions, and enough beans for one bowl. We can fight over them tonight. One of my potato bags was completely died out/brown leaves so I dumped it and got this:

I am so excited! I tried growing potatoes twice before. This actually worked! I have 3 more bags that I’ll wait to see die off a little more, they still have green leaves. What do I need to do with them to store them? Right now they are on a shelf in my garage.

Got the brooder cages/mats hosed down today and set them out to dry, then got ready to take a walk.
Any idea what happened next?
IT RAINED. 😂 I left the cages and mats out for a second soaking. My poor chicks are staring out of the run trying to figure out what this “rain” is. (My run is covered so they aren’t getting wet).

See a few cucumbers almost big enough to pick, and a few summer squash just about ready! Hope this rain sprouts my kale row I planted where the garlic was. My watering didn’t do the trick.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Oh and also, does anyone know what this massive weed is, and can I cut it down and put it in the chicken run? I have a couple of them growing in the back corner of my house that we will be landscaping soon but haven’t yet. It’s over a foot high and about 2 feet wide.

Cockaburrs I don't think the chickens want them though.

So just realized the tomato seeds I sowed the other day prob won't ever be able to do anything this year...prob bout 5 weeks too late! But they are in ground nonetheless.
I must have more big maters!!! I hate I scared myself off planting more beefsteak after my jungle experience last year. But hey I know what I want next year right!?
I do have 3 good sized suckers in water but idk if they will ever root cuz the sun keeps getting on em. I'll give em few more days in hopes they do though!
Are any of yall planting anything in the next few days for a fall harvest?
If so what?
And are you starting seeds indoors then hardening off and transplanting later?

Feel good just long enough to do something and then that leaves me drained and breathless. UGH.
Watered the garden and was OK until I bent to pick a low tomato. That'll teach me. Ears hurt and got spacey.
took a LONG break in the house
load of laundry
break
made bed
break
laundry
break
fresh bedding in the coop
Really long break
New symptom today - things went from tasting metallic for the past couple of days to barely tasting of anything, sigh
I am not a patient person and I KNOW this is going to take time to work its way out. Glory. This is as bad as the early 2020 version I had.
6 slicers from the garden
managed the only storm in the 4 county area last night for a total of .21 inches
Hope to get an inch tonight
