What did you do in the garden today?

Lazy gardener it sounds like you and Garden nut and Dan are all having so much fun! I told my dh that I was to make my raised bed a cold frame this year. We have the scrap wood and a pile of old windows. I mainly want to protect my baby pomegranate trees and elderberry bushes. They are just so small. We got the blueberries in a half barrel since they will not grow in our black belt prarie mix of clay soil. I added a good bit of peat moss in the potting soil. Just not sure where to put it yet. lol
I'm not really having fun, my tomatoes did squat, my peppers did squat, my eggplants got eaten by aphids, my watermelons gotten eaten by my pigs, I can't get peas to germinate, I can't get brassicas past seedlings stage, my squash all got eaten by catipillers that seem immune to everything. Only thing that seems alright is my cowpeas and late beans.

Years like this make me look forward to next year! Dan you posted pics of a lot of beautiful plants, fruits, etc. we were all inspired by your efforts!

I forked over another 4x10 bed today. I'm up to 6, halfway there. Covered the new bed with newspaper and rabbit poo.

Oh Dan I am so sorry. I had the same battles here. I really only tomatoes. Your potatoes looked great.

Thanks. :) It was a learning year, next year I'll do better. :fl They tasted great too!!!

Yeah. Thanks :)

Planted a few Siberian pea tree seedlings, a raspberry and a black berry. 2 seedling asparagus. Repotted a tomato plant. Have a purple butterfly bush to put in the ground, but have no idea where it should go.

As soon as my dtr and SIL have the closing on their new property, I am hoping to go take a very close look at their apple trees. Hopefully, closing will be within the next 2 weeks. Their land includes 2 acres of the first commercial apple orchard in my state. Still a lot of trees there. Will gather apples from the ones that seem to be the most disease and insect resistant and start some seedlings. Hope to be able to graft from those trees next spring.

My new property has two apple trees on it, but no apples. I can't tell how old they are, but they're about 7-8 ft tall. If it blooms next year, than just maybe I'll have apples! I ordered a self-pollinating peach to plant this fall.

There're also some Colorado blue spruce trees around the pond, but two look like they're dying from the bottom up. I haven't figured out if it's pests or disease yet

I want to have a super huge garden someday with apple and cherry trees in it and lost of other fruits and vegetables and flowers and I'm gonna keep all my chickens in there because that's were I'm going to build their coop is in the garden
