What did you do in the garden today?

I always wear garden gloves while picking veggies. Today I saw 3 Praying Manthis in the green beans. I tell them, "I have to wear my gloves because I don't want you to bite/scratch me". :gig
Morgage Lifter Tomato: a new one for me

Champion: my tried and true every year

Heatmaster: a new one for me, my husband's new favorite

Amish Paste: a new one for me, very small

Terra Cotta: a new one for me, very good but hard to tell when they are ready to pick. I ate this one for lunch, it was very tasty.

I also have 2 cherry tomatoes: Sweet Million (too sweet, yuck) and Husky (love them!)
Can you tell tomatoes are my favorite veggie? ;)

To all of you without rain...I send you some of mine. We have flood warnings out and my chickens still scared from the owl won't go in their coop 🤷🏻‍♀️. Yet, I hope this storm sends some rain your way because I don't need it and have no electricity right now oye.
Oh yes please! Last night about 11pm we got some huge raindrops hitting the tin roof and let us begin to hope, but it lasted maybe 5 minutes. :hit

Help! Squash bug infestation! Should I just pull my plants & call it a day? Never had them before, only SVB. Two days of rain and not checking and they are ALL OVER THE LEAVES. No way I can eradicate them all…
You really need to eradicate the bugs to prevent next generation . Ripping out plants is good . Using chemicals is a option . A systemic insecticide is the simplest . Don't like chemicals ? Then use one of those flame things like weed dragon or similar . Yep mini flamethrower .

I watered heavily this morning and then it sprinkled for an hour or two around midday. It really didn't rain enough to make a difference in soil moisture, but it kept the day from getting as hot as it could have otherwise. I harvested one okra pod. Seems I'm getting about one a day again. Now watch I'll plant twice as much next year and be so deep in okra I run out of freezer space.

Maybe I’ll go out first thing in the morning and pull/bag them. DH can start a nice fire when he gets home & I’ll throw it all in there…

@Sally PB I never had catfacing on my mortgate lifters, but different climate and all, they may never work for you.

Ugh, one more thing I have to order in advance? We haven't broken ground on my house (waiting on permit) and my builder wants to order cabinets already.

No gardening today, just processed a couple extra quail. One had two vents.. yep weird. My post is in the quail forum if you want the necropsy.
Took
-5 months for my steel siding
-10 months for my steel garage doors
-3 months for my roof
-4 months for my dishwasher
-4 months and counting for my new exterior doors, which reminds me, I need to check on those.
Picked up some of those Golden Harvest Lids today. I'll use those next batch of puree. 3.50 a box of 12 Dollar General

@BirdsBeesTrees I have 18 varieties out there.... so......ya. here too

Had 6 inches chopped off my hair. It's going to be more work, think 1950s pincurl set. But honestly, my hair was 3" past my shoulders and it's thick and course and curly and just not age appropriate. It took FOREVER to dry, and I had to wear it up 99% of the time for ranch safety, so why not make it short? Yup. So I did.

Good afternoon all. I’m not holding my breath for rain tonight. Clouds look impressive to the North but storms are moving Northwest and not into our area. It’s not horrible out, but I’m going to have to water in the morning.

My heart leaf philodendrons are looking a little sad, planning transplant to bigger pots over the weekend, but the spider plant has babies on it. Will cut those off for now, should have space to root some later in the year. I ordered a couple of bonsai trees, one for inside and one for out. The one for out should be ok in the shade garden most of the year, there’s a spot that gets good sun in Winter.

The new growth on the apricot has exploded, the plums are still with us. I’m pulling the other apricot this weekend unless I see improvement. Need to check Lowes for what’s available. I’ll keep whatever I get to replace it in the shade garden until fall.

All I did was clean up Joey's mess in garden...hazards of leaving a silly cockrel out most of the day. But he got me off to bad start this morning so out he went.. that's the thanks I get for letting him stay the night with the others instead of his bachelor coop!
Trying to propagate some lavender and salvia...sure hope this time goes better for lavender!
He took down 2 large basil stems...so the run they went.
He's slowly taken care of the non producing zucchini too.
