What did you do in the garden today?

Loved this. And marvelous garden pictures, thanks for posting them!
Thank you! I'm very happy with it, and have been having trouble getting to sleep because I start thinking about next year's garden (which will be double the size of this year's).
And yes, I can't be bothered to remember or keep looking up that ridiculously long name!

Reminds me of a joke.
A little old lady goes and knocks on the door of a guy who owns a pit bull. he answers the door and she's all sad and says, sir I am so sorry, but my dog killed your dog. The pit bull owner laughed and said, you have a little Chiuhaua ! There is no way that little dog can kill my big pit bull! The lady said, well actually he did, and the guy says How!?.
She then says well, the dogs got together, I couldn't stop it, your dog was much too strong and powerful to stop, and the guy says yah go on, and she said, they started growling and barking, and being dogs.. I went to look for a phone so I could call someone to come help, and when I turned back around, your dog is laying on the ground dead. he choked to death on my little chihuaua.

Sounds like what would happen if my Chihuahua could get at a pitbull. He doesn't even like stuffed animals!

There's one on my blog.
I pressure can, so I don't have to worry about low acidity. Link to blog is below, search for soup.
Thank you! Pressure canning is fine. (eta: I just looked, exactly what I was looking for, a nice, simple recipe!)

I need to get lettuce seed in the bed today, but I want to put some more dirt in first. The heat has taken its toll on the green beans, I've only got 2 gallons put up for winter. The cukes are still producing but the wilt from cucumber bugs is spreading so they don't have long before I tear them out. I shredded & froze quite a few yesterday. I need to finish watering too, still no rain here & I started last night.

Question for you all, I seeded lettuce about 2 weeks ago when we had that heat wave (dumb, I know). Nothing has sprouted even with our temps into the 50s at night and 70s during the day this week. Do I need to reseed again? Not one freaking sprout…what the heck, do you think something ate the seeds? Usually if I seed at the wrong time things will just come up when the temp is right. I NEEEEED romaine again. I refuse to buy it in the store until we get snow. Lol

It has been overcast and unseasonably cool for several days. A tiny bit of rain, so have needed to water a couple times. Rather cool at night, so I worry about the sweet potatoes…too cool and it’s not good for the tubers, but most are under black plastic, so I hope that helps.

Yesterday I planted 2 varieties of salad turnips (the smaller white ones), kohlrabi (2 varieties), spinach, and 5 varieties of mustard greens. I have a little more space for some other planting, but might wait a little longer for that area.

The bush green beans I planted a few weeks ago are huge and lush and have already flowered, so we might get many green beans starting in another week.

Tomorrow I’ll drive to pick up some chicks!!

If you’ve watered it enough and it’s not coming up then yes, reseed. Or give it a few extra days between watering and water again, sometimes if I neglect seeds then go back and water they’re suddenly ready to sprout.

It's raining lightly. I'll take it.
We're expecting more tonight and into tomorrow.
I could do without the possibility of howling winds and hail later today, but honestly, the cracks in the fields are large enough to put your foot into, so it's desperate.
Any day the sun isn't blazing down....

Countertop covered in tomatoes under towels.
Clifford has a fresh stem. He's a little less neon red, more a mauve.

The plastic is failing badly on the hoophouse. It started cracking after 30 days, but I patched those with gator tape.I have plans to remove the plastic and panels this fall and maybe build a 2x4 frame and use plastic panels and upcycled windows. We'll see.
