What did you do in the garden today?

Was it a disease? Or just lack of water because of the Climate Change push this year?

It was definitely a disease. Wilt is a problem here when the rainy season hits. It's in the soil.

We were blessed with lots of rain here in Southeast Georgia. I hardly watered for 2 months because we had rain every other day, sometimes every day. It was even nice because the rain would usually hold off until the evening so they still got plenty of sun too (maybe too much sun even with the shade cloth).

When we had dry spells I watered daily because it's HOT here and the sprinkler just doesn't work like rain does. 😊

Even with it raining several days a week we still had temps up in the high 90s and 100s in the afternoon.

The Cherokee Purple tomato died from wilt before it got crazy hot though. I never got a tomato off of it.

Be careful about loving the rain, we ain't out of hurricane season yet, you might get an extra heapin' helpin' if ya ain't careful.

The tomato's yah the heat is a big killer. I have the same issues trying to grow potato's, by the time it gets this time of year, even if you keep them in partly shaded areas etc etc. ti's just too hot for them. Wilt, moisture will do that too, I have that issue often with my squash, although they are temperamental in their own special ways. But the good thing is, there are just so many different varieties of tomato's out there you don't have to try to pamper any of them, it's easy to find one that grows well where you live and you like and run with that! I am finding that out with my garlics too. Some just don't like it out here.

Ya. We had multiple deaths in April to overcome, then depression, coupled with spring plantings and summer prep, herd shearing, and haying season, then Covid hit us (AGAIN), I've been working and trying to catch up on the loom, my coursework and my books. It just wasn't a priority.
And honestly, I felt like I was typing to an empty theater. Readership is way down. People have switched to watching youtube and vlogs over reading. So I wonder if it's even worth it.

We got some rain! :celebrate

It came overnight with lots of thunder and lightening... about half an inch, I'd say. We were wondering, because yesterday the trails in the sky were plentiful - tic-tac-toe grids all around, which morphed into dirty, grey, man-made clouds... but we did get some rain!
Congratulations!

Things are looking promising :fl:bow

No thank you on the hurricane! It was the perfect amount of rain. I don't want any hurricanes please. 😆

@Ascholten hope it gets better soon!

I think i missed my corn window. I did the “poke it” test but no juice, a few days ago and now its dried up. Also, a couple stalks are turning red? Is that normal? I really dont know what i planted, but they were supposed to be yellow, small and early. Two different types. One from baker creek.

I find that unless you totally decimate it. Boil the corn slowly, or shuck it and heat it in a slow cooker, corn chowder or just with a little butter and spices, or corn and green beans, bla bla, you get the idea.. but you can easily re hydrate it and it's still very good. No you may not be able to gnaw it off the cob but you won't waste / lose it either.

Edit: Don't forget the low country boil either !!
