What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, I completely agree. I can identify morels. That's it. And only because we've been hunting them for decades and I had family elders who TAUGHT me how to find them and what to look for.... Unless I have someone who knows what they are doing, I'm not eating it. But I do think there is a lot to learn and if you (I) don't start seeking out those people and learning, then the knowledge or opportunity for knowledge will be lost.
Morels, I have yet to see any down here in Jax. Id love to get some of those but they just don't make it down this far it seems. I tell you though, the Lions Mane's, after a good rain, can get really dense and heavy, you can grab a shroom that weighs about a pound. Slice and Sautee that with some butter, garlic, maybe a little onion if you wish and you have an entire meal right there. .

I can finally walk a bit with a cane. I jumped on the 4-wheeler and went down for a spin around the garden. I never dumped the water gauge since the last rainfall (2.5"). The gauge now says 5". :yesss:
Glad to hear you are finally getting around a bit but dammit !
BE CAREFUL !!! Yes I know you get antsy, you get bored being cooped up, can't walk, told not to do this, do that, but if you screw up you can undo everything that doctor just fixed ! Not to mention the pain you can inadvertently cause yourself when you stretch bump or bang something you were not supposed to. So NO rain dances for you yet!!

Take care of yourself but go easy, it's simply not worth it if you re injure.

This made me lol @ the pic in my brain! 😂

Good idea, I'll have to think about that on my wooden beds, might be a good idea here! Thank you.

That makes me want to barf. That is why I don't grow broccoli or cauli, my 2 favorite veggies.

We got almost an inch of rain today (7/8)!! :wee:yesss::celebrate

Thanks! I am trying not to do too much. I still can't get the boot on yet but I can walk short distances without the cane even. I hobbled (with the cane) out to the chicken yard to let everyone out to free range today. That was almost too much. I had to stop several times to rest. Came back inside and propped my foot up again.

I told our local extension office that we REALLY need a class on identifying mushrooms. They were holding one but I found out too late and couldn't go. We have a lot of different kinds of mushrooms growing around our property around the trees and in the pasture but since the only mushroom I can definitively identify is a morel I'm scared to pick and try any of them.
I can only I'd a couple mushrooms...lionsmain, oysters, conk and wood ear. There's a few others I know but always forget the names of because they're not edible....lol. My daughters the one thats really good at iding mushrooms. She joined a local group that goes mushroom hunting together which is a great way to learn. They're might be something like that near you. There's a book and author she swears by too but I can't remember his name or the names of any of his books.
