What did you do in the garden today?

I have found that my peppers, ESPECIALLY if you have them in pots. when it is THAT hot out, you need to water them twice a day.
Once early in the morning then once at about noon / 1 pm when the sun is blazing

or one about 11 am, and 1 towards end of day, night coming. This way they have some wet still to suck up during the hottest /bakingest part of the day.

observe your plants, about the time they start getting all wilty and poopy looking, about an hour or so before then, is when you want to get the water on them.

Remember plants in pots dry out twice as fast, because the heat is hitting their entire root ball too, it's in the pot, and can get HOT, VERY HOT, as it does not have the entire earth to take the heat away from it.

These are growing in 40 gallon tubs with holes drilled about 2 inches up on the sides. They have a water reservoir at the bottom so they don't go into wilt from the heat. I don't even have to water them daily.
I used to grow my peppers in the ground and those did wilt every single day, even with daily watering and lots of good shade. In the ground they needed daily x2 watering or more for most of the summer. I gave up on that here except drought tolerant decorative plants. Everything we eat loves water! So everything edible goes into planters of some sort with constant water to sip at.

Check out this tomato my neighbor gave me. I should have put something in the pic for size reference, it's huge. I thought it was a gourde at first. :gig

I forgot to drill out a couple of the half wine barrels we bought and so had to drill them on the sides instead of the bottoms. One of them has a big, very happy san marzano tomato in it and is do really well. I'm going to do the same thing from now on, having a reservoir in the bottom is a great idea.
Canning some garden goodness:
That all looks delicious! I'll have to try the spicy dilly beans myself.

Are you one of the people that shred and freeze cucumbers ? Does the bitterness stay in them? Do you peel them first? What do you do with them later?
