What did you do in the garden today?

The previous of my place left these huge nylon bags called "Dino bags" in the shed. I two of those full of raked leaves down to the garden. I love those bags! The chickens immediately went to work.

My turnips are doing really well! I need to thin them, I justed wanted to get them big enough to use as greens before thining

Yeah! I've suddenly found that I really like the looks of purple beans.... I discovered that the bean itself or the pod looks cool then I really really really want to grow it! I think I should stop looking at seed catalogs.......

Yesterday I organized my garden supplies to get them ready to put away. I'll be travel nursing this winter so I'm putting everything outside to bed. My MIL is going to look after the plants I brought inside while I'm working. I'll be helping my Dad re-pot his prayer plant later today. It's a really awesome looking houseplant that folds up at night. The leaves sort of look like hands pressed together.

Congrats Lazy gardener!

Hey Diva! We still have some time before we get a frost here. But our rabbits are loving the leaves falling.

I am just letting a couple tomato plants and a pepper plant stay in my raised bed for the honey bees that finally showed up here!

Yesterday I arranged my cattle panel tomato trellises into a hoop structure so I can cover it in plastic for the winter. Planted all my remaining romaine lettuce seeds in there, along with spinach, broccoli and carrots. I know it's likely too late to get any good growth there but one never knows....could be a warm winter like last year.

I also have a small cold frame in the garden planted with romaine and carrots as well. Last week the grandgirl and I planted a couple of small rows of beets and turnips too...those are up already.

My brother works as a lifeguard, so had given me old pool noodles to use in protecting my plastic from the sharp edges of the CPs...they look pretty cheerful out there!

Come the end of December I'll plant some tomato seeds in the cold frame and greenhouse, let them winter over there and "volunteer" in the spring. I'd like to see what the volunteers can do if they are well fed and nurtured when they arrive....my volunteers this year were the healthiest plants in the garden and didn't get blight like the intentionally planted tomatoes did. I'd like to see if I can make that happen in a planned sort of way.

We started a new project today. Around the garden plots we are putting up a chicken fence so they can spend a couple hours a day munching on fresh leftovers and pesky grasses and weeds that are popping up. Was wondering if I should relocate my herb garden? Will they (I imagine so) eat basil, oregano, various mints and could any of these make them sick?
