What did you do in the garden today?

That's one scary...um...strong! duckling!🤣
I filled in the hugel trench I dug yesterday. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, and I didn't want my trench to collapse. Kind of tired now!
Best kind of tired!
We have wet stuff falling out of the sky??? Could it be ??? Yes! Rain! REAL Rain! 🤣

:celebrate :wee:clap:wee:celebrate

Yes, I must be getting old to be so happy about rain on the weekend.
That's me every time it rains....lol.
Partial progress!

Hopefully we will get the whole section, around the corner done before rain is predicted for tomorrow.
That looks really great!

Tied up the raspberries and took the bird netting off the strawberries, this is round 3 for the strawberries sonic the birds get some it is ok.

Pulled the pepper and squash vines, add some chicken run material and dirt to the beds, will let it sit for a couple weeks and then turn before winter.

Need to feed the berry plants after this last production round and cut back the raspberry plants.

Lots of crows calling this morning, foggy and cold like fall.

So, today (really) I’m hoping to get some canning done.

I picked beets this morning. Ready to be scrubbed, boiled, peeled, then into jars for pressure canning.

Two kinds of beets: cylindra type on left, regular round ones on right.

I’ve left the smallest ones in the bed to get larger. Also, the ones planted a month ago look good.

Spouse stayed up all night working on getting fencing done to a certain point. We get rain today, so he was trying to beat the rain. He’s rather tired this morning. I’ll post a pic later.

No Rutebegas? Those go hand in hand with the beets, but those look really good either way!
We tried. Really!

I hunted for Rutabaga seeds. I have seeds for 7 varieties!! These came from a few sources.

I planted six varieties. I lovingly covered them with netting to deter the cabbage loooer moths. But, they hardly grew. We fertilized them, that helped. A couple varieties really tried to produce. But then, the leaves started to turn a rusty yellow color and clearly they were in decline.

Just yesterday I removed them all - barely any tiny roots.

So, sadly, no rutabaga this year.
