What did you do in the garden today?

Do you know what type of apples they are? I have about 8 or so of my own. I mostly have granny smith and some seeds I got from the American germoplasm repository for a homeschool project with my kids. I love fresh apples!

I haven't even seen an elderberry bush since I was a kid... brings back fond memories though.
Appear to be mostly Red Delicious, also a Mac type. My bad on the Elderberry. It was a high bush cranberry. Fruit too soft to use at this point.

I'm picking beans!

Those are beautiful. Variety????

I have this one pullet. If I am working outside, she has to come help. This morning, I wandered out to the garden. The minute I walked into the garden, she came running over to me. Immediately started digging for goodies between my feet, kicking a fair amount of mulch through the holes in my crocks. So, I got to wondering... do the bugs and such taste better if they are between my feet? So... I side stepped about 4' away from her. Within 20 seconds, she came plowing between my feet, to continue the search for the "better bugs". This afternoon when I was working in the cold frame, she was right there, under foot again. I had to push her out of the way several times. Twice, when I pushed her, she turned around and nipped at me. She certainly feels entitled!!!

Gives you a warm fuzzy inside though knowing she wants to be near, even if it is for food! One of mine wanted to ride/perch on the potato fork when I was turning over my garden beds. She kept looking at me like, "Come on! Get to it!"

Today I planted the little peach tree that I ordered from Starks. I put it near two apple trees already on the property, so do 3 fruit trees make an "orchard?"

I think so lol. You definitely have an area that you've dedicated to fruit cultivation, which is the very definition of an orchard. What kind of peach tree is it? I have a dwarf peach tree (Loring) in my front garden.

It's a Reliance dwarf, self-pollinating tree. Supposed to be ok for my zone 6b area.

Yep. that's an orchard. I had a Reliance here once. It produced for several seasons before it died due to some fungus. I'm thinking it would be sweet (literally) to plant an other one. I have an empty space where I had a Manchurian Apricot that was a dud from the moment it went into the ground. Thinking that if a peach goes in that spot, it should be off set from the Apricot hole, since they are in the same family.
