What did you do in the garden today?

22 pounds smashed and simmering on the stove
another 10 on the counter ripening up some more, all slicers

There MIGHT be another canner load out there green, if I can get them to ripen this week. It will be in the 90s during the day and 60s at night. After that, I cut them down. The shade cloth gets put away, and I might strip the roof off the hoop house. October is usually good for outdoor work.

No idea if I'll dig horseradish this fall. Digging makes it spread, and I'm up to my eyeballs now!

For the past few months I've been preparing to build a bigger duck coop but have been waiting for the weather to cool down. Today on BYC I came across a thread about a cow panel coop. Caught my interest. Mine will not be the same but I did gain some inspiration from the post. Here's the one they built -

I only need mine to be 6 ft x 8 ft. I'll add 1 ft overhangs on the front and back so it rounds out to 8 ft x 8 ft space in the run. However I don't need an attached run since mine will be inside a large pen covered by netting. So I'm going to enclose the front and back in plywood and then cover the entire thing with truckers tarp. I'll add velcro along the bottom so I can roll up the sides for extra ventilation in the summer (just like in a greenhouse).

The guy who sells the chickens out here. Charlies Chicks, great person, takes very good care of his birds, and is who I got my girls from, has his in these, im trying to get him to build me one next time he is making more. Id love someone to do this as I just plain suck at carpentry. Id be more than happy to pay them properly as well.

DH dug me a hole for my tree. He broke out the Case because digging here stinks. A 2x2x2 hole seems excessive for a little tree, but whatever, I'm a rule follower. :gig

I have a duck in the oven, I've never cooked one before so I'm super excited. I'm also officially addicted to edamame. I can't wait to grow it next year.

Started some fall stuff - putting away garden things. I have 2 weddings in Oct, one I have to travel for, so I'm feeling the pressure to prep while I can. Back to work on Monday. :hit

I am jealous when I see your soil and green grass, lol.
