What did you do in the garden today?

Anyway, the only reason why I haven't been able to maintain it is because I LOVE fresh fruits and we eat a lot of carby starchy foods like corn and potatoes. It's hard to cut that stuff out for us.
That's the one problem with the keto thing. I love those things too, and carbs are NOT UNHEALTHY. They want to demonize them, but some are very good for you !! Plus they are tasty !! Where the problems start is when you start bouncing in and out of keto, then is when you start feeling 'icky' because your body is transitioning between the two modes all the time. When you are picking fresh stuff right out of your garden, and it's hanging in your face, it's REAL hard to ignore it and pass it by !!

I think the way I explained made it a bit confusing. Apologies... Let me try again. It isn't the transition that makes me feel icky. For example, I haven't done keto in over a year. Clearly not in ketosis right now or even recently. Yet after I eat any meal, my insides just feel icky. I feel bloated and uncomfortable. Doesn't matter what I eat or how little. In fact, I usually don't eat anything in the morning because I feel nauseated if I do.

However, when I'm on keto (and passed the first week so I'm fully in ketosis), I don't feel anything like that at all. My whole eating regime is totally different. I usually eat a large keto-friendly breakfast, medium lunch, and small dinner. But I never feel bloated or uncomfortable at all...regardless of how much I eat or what I eat.

I think my body doesn't do well with certain carbs (like gluten) or with a lot of starchy carbs.

I have heard more than one person say this, that after doing keto for a while, the body does NOT like it when they are back on carbs. Not the transition but even if they stay on carbs, they feel crappy now. Like the body is less tolerant of carbs now or something.

I will be honest, I try to eat healthy, but I don't really eat right all the time. Not talking just because im eating junk food, but I just need to better period on my food intake, getting all the food groups and a balanced diet, and remembering that NO, taking a vitamin pill is NOT going to make up for you NOT eating right !!!

I have felt that at times too, and I don't want to say this and have anyone think it is legit, because I honestly do NOT know or have done any studies on it but it seems like once you have done the keto thing for a while, something changes in you permanently... that the body does not like carbs much anymore, although we absolutely DO need them really. Its like you lost your tolerance to them.

I will say THIS though, all those keto zealots, .. you will NOT EVER convince me that keto is perfectly healthy for you to live on all the time. IM sorry but starving your body to force it into some sort of protection mode is NOT an overall healthy thing !!! You can eat all the eggs and meat you want. Oh so I can just ignore that cholesterol number now? Using it to get to a goal is one thing, living on it constantly.. you can't sell me on that.

I have issues with some carbs too. Fortunately, the problem is usually "just" gas. Except for gluten. That make my shins itch. (Weird, I know.) Want-to-scrub-my-shins-with-Brillo level of itching. Cortizone creams don't touch it.

Inulin (chicory root) is big gas causer for me. Lots of GF snack-type bars have inulin. I really like Costco's GF bar. If I eat one, I get a lot of gas. I made the mistake of eating two one time only.

So what you are saying is, they could market them as Calliope bars?
A little ingenuity and you could heat the house.

My friend swears that a lot of gluten makes his toes itch, so it almost seems like a neural reaction. that's so odd.
