What did you do in the garden today?

So, I suppose weather tells me to dig my sweet potatoes? Anyone experienced with them? I’ve read that temps below 55F can begin to cause issues, but the ground would be a bit warmer bc of the residual heat and the black plastic on top of the soil.

Under 50 and WET CAN cause issues. Watch the ends of the vines. When they start to turn, then it's time......always before a freeze/frost though

Well, I done and done some stupid stuff again.
Ive been fasting the past week, trying to lose weight.
The weight thing has been an ongoing event, Ive been on this 'weightloss program' (we'll be polite and just call it that) for the better part of a year.
Ive lost a LOT of weight, and very happy with my results. Im in I guess I can call it, the final phase of my 'take it off' evolution. Maybe I should call it my final 'step' ...
Ive been losing the weight about 5 to 8 lbs at a time. I fast, go about two days to get past the keto flu, the 'switch over' from carbs to no carbs, the body tantruming over it, then you get into your 'zone'. Eat a little bit of food every day, but honestly after about the 3rd day, the hunger is not this 'all consuming' feeling anymore. It's more an after thought as you go about your work. Do this for about a week or so, burning off a lot of weight, getting to points, then HOLDING there. You can eat a bit more, but let your body I guess you could call 'reset' at that point, as it's new 'this is my cycle around this number... weight. Once you held the same point for about a week, and seem fairly stable there, go at it again, re initiate the fast, get over the keto flu crap, settle out, and go into your weight losing routine again.

Gotta keep yourself busy, exercising, WORKING etc. If you are going to lose weight, burn off the fat that is ON YOU... Make your body burn what you got stored. WORK does that.

Right now I am at 168 Lbs, I want to get to about 162. From there i'll 'slack' a little, let my body 'reset itself' and hopfully hover around the 165 to 170 as my hover point.

Gardening is EXCELLENT for doing this !! You are working pretty hard, I mean, pushing wheel barrows full of dirt and compost around burns calories. Pushing a push mower, with NO drive assist on it, so it's YOU pushing that mower, and mowing 1/3 ish acre of grass, is good exercise.,

You GOTTA watch your meds, especially if you are on blood pressure meds. You GOTTA watch your water intake, make sure you do NOT dehydrate. Just because you drank a decent amount of water, does not mean you body has assimilated it yet. When you lose 25 lbs or more, your blood pressure medicine, I can almost guarantee is too strong now. ANY dehydration and you will be in trouble.

Well here I am working on my fish pond, feeling a bit dizzy. Ive been here before, I am a little hot, I am, quite a bit sweating. I'll go inside and sit down a bit. So I stand up grab my phone and head for the door.

About a minute later I stand back up from where I passed out / fainted in the yard, very woozy and carefully make my dizzy eyesight going black - ass back into the air conditioned house. I drink some more water, even though I had a big glass maybe 10 minutes ago. I sit down and grab my blood pressure cuff. umm yah, 68 over 47 is probably a bit low. I bring this up as a warning that even though we may not feel it too bad, gardening CAN make you sweat quite a bit, and lose an awful lot of water. You can dehydrate and get yourself into problems.

Ive seen many people here say, oh the weather is nice now, ive done SO MUCH and finally have a chance to get XXXXX done !!! gotta hurry up before I lose the opportunity !!! Watch yourself, especially if you ARE on meds for this kind of thing or have some kind of compromise of your Bloodpressure health. I got lucky. What if I was on the roof of the 2 story house, with a scrub brush deciding it's time to clean my solar panels, and this happened up there or on the ladder??? You can have heat related issues WITHOUT it being blistering hot out.

I have never had issues with digging them OR heard of temperature issues, besides maybe if you wait too long and the ground froze. The only issues I can think of is, if it's too warm, they start growing again? Use a small trowel to probe around where the main 'bunch' went in the ground to get an idea how big the patch is, then a spade to pop them up. go around the main bunch about say 4 inches out or so so you can pop the whole thing, knock the dirt back into the hole. What I do is, if I end up chopping the plant off too to harvest them (although to be honest I don't harves until the main plant has been killed offf really) throw it all in the hole then the dirt etc you clean off the pile you dug out, throw it all in to fill the hole you left, and go from there. Next season when you goto plant more whatever there, throw in your compost or whatever you are going to augment that soil with, turn the entire thing over to mix it in and even the ground out from any shallows you left from the taters you took, and you should be good.

Good afternoon gardeners. We got an inch of rain yesterday evening. Cloudy and sprinkling today. Supposed to get more rain in a few hours. I picked mostly green SM tomatoes this morning. A couple were blushing, but the rest just green. I finally have a yellow squash that actually got pollinated and is growing. I sliced up the okra I had into refrigerator and put it into the freezer bag. I have over a pound. The greens are doing well but I’m holding off picking for now. I took the AC units out of the windows and put them away for the winter. I’m always jealous of your corn @sourland. I made stewed tomatoes this year but I’m freezing it instead of canning. I wasn’t happy with the recipe I used a couple of year’s ago so I just made them the way I like them and froze them. Of course I’m getting low on freezer space now. I may can some more peaches so I won’t have to stuff them in the freezer.

I misremembered the weather forecast for today, and put laundry on the line. Crap. Starting to rain. In the middle of canning, so let it go. Grumble grumble grumble.

Watch the noon news and see what's going on in Puerto Rico. I have NOTHING to complain about. The laundry can get a second rinse.

@Ascholten, GLAD you're ok!

I've done keto off and on for years. I love the results and I actually feel BETTER on keto. I'm pretty sure I'm gluten intolerant or something because carbs make my insides feel icky. Anyway, the only reason why I haven't been able to maintain it is because I LOVE fresh fruits and we eat a lot of carby starchy foods like corn and potatoes. It's hard to cut that stuff out for us.
