What did you do in the garden today?

Picked up supplies today to build the new hoop house duck coop. I was extremely relieved to see the price of wood has come down just a bit. 2x4s are now $4/each instead of $8-9. A 3 ft x 25 ft roll of hardware cloth is up to $60 though!

Just goes to show they will give with one hand and take away with the other.... 😕

Carrot Cranberry conserve: carrots, pears, canned pineapple, dried cranberries, and toasted pecans. Cinnamon and nutmeg as the spice. It tastes really nice! The pear really comes through.

Carrots from the garden, otherwise everything else store bought.

Sounds like liquid carrot cake YUM

It was night time but they were stuck in the netting some 7 ft in the air or on top of the coop which is 10 ft off the ground. There was no way to reach them. The ones I did manage to reach I had to slowly "relay" them through the net until I could get them to a spot where I could pull them through. By "relay" I mean I'd hold them feet with one hand. Poke my other hand through the netting a little distance away and then transfer the bird's feet from one hand to the other. This was a painstaking process when you are trying to cover a distance of 15 ft or so. And the birds were screaming as if they were being horribly murdered in the process which caused alarm amongst the rest of the chickens both inside and outside the coop. Naturally if I had realized they were still outside the pen, I wouldn't have shut the gate and they would have gone back inside like normal. The error was mine by not realizing they were still roaming about so I inadvertently locked them out. They flew into the netting to simply get back inside. Generally they were probably safe from coons up there. I would be more worried about them flying down at dawn and getting snatched by a fox or coyote but luckily that didn't happen.

your life is exciting. it seems you are never bored, lol.

😂 And yet I'd give anything for a simple, quiet life off the grid...
off grid and simple .. do not in real life.... fit in the same sentence.

I've found that since I moved to a more 'off grid' and 'retired' life style that I am doing more work than when I had my 80 /hr week job.

I understand what you are saying but simple quiet, sadly don't exist in that world :D

that's very true. but I don't mind too much work as long as I don't deal with people. more people more trouble.

a different kind of simple.

we also have started to move more secluded as the years go by. hard work but makes the soul feel good. tasking and mind work too-but no people drama.
