What did you do in the garden today?

I very much dislike Starbucks, too. If I ever have to go there for a social meeting or rest stop on a trip, I end up getting tea since the coffee tastes like pine shavings mixed with burnt dirt. ๐Ÿคฎ
You mean, like we could imagine the pine shavings on the bottom of our chicken coops taste like? Only the coop is probably slightly healthier??

What does this mean? It made me laugh.

If you pressure can dried beans (with water), then you have cooked, canned beans, like what you'd buy in the store. Open, add to recipe. No soaking or cooking. It's for convenience.
This exactly, I make salads that use chickpeas and other assorted canned beans and now they are always ready. Got garlic and shallots planted, we are just starting to get rain here and there. DP wants to plant a be of assorted greens but the only vacant bed is full of wee grass, so we built a temporary pen on the bed and will be putting a few hens in it.

I love Starbucks!

Well that certainly makes sense then ! The convenience part, as beans need to soak a LONG time when you are making Calliope Soup.

This is one of the things I like about my freeze dryer. You cook your stuff then FD it, then add water heat and eat! Or add HOT water and it's done even faster. I find that the stuff is healthier for you and tastier than heat dehydrating too. Although, I have tried a recipe for beef jerkey before that was pretty darned good.

You make your jerky you soak it in a saltier solution, Teriaki or the likes (personally I really don't like all that salt in my foods anymore but it is what it is) then you take a box fan and 2 furnace filters that fit over 1 full side of the fan. You put the meat between the two filters after you removed it from soaking in the flavoring solution and shaked it off / dried it off a bit, and then bungi cord it to the fan and let it run a day or so. The fan sucks through / blows through, Sucking IMO is better, and that dries the meat out. When it's dried out to your desired consistancy, there is your jerky. The filters are to both hold the meat, and to keep dust and bugaboos off it.

It worked pretty well. The other methods Ive tried for jerky were of course a dehydrator machine, the heat ones and you can use an oven too, hang them from a rack with the oven at about 140 or the lowest temp it can hit and the door propped open with a wooden spoon and let it run for several hours, (best done in winter so heat is not a total waste product).

Thats funny that you say 3rd crack. Thats a big joke in the roasting world about their coffee. it's burnt beyond any sort of recognition anymore. BUT you have to hand it to them, they have a tremendous marketing team. esturtz i feel sorry for your chef, any TRUE chef / barista hates what they did to the art.

Aaron
Edit: 3 rd crack is also a joke about when you *bleep* up and start a roast on fire. Yes if you do stupid stuff you CAN turn a coffee roast into total char coal. Stupid stuff like walk away from your roaster while it's running...

Idk if you have ever tried it but the only thing I purchase from Starbucks is the londonfog latte. No espresso or coffee just earl grey and foamed milk. I don't have a milk frother so every once in a while I slurge lol.

I don't want to insult you and call it a steam toy but people at home do NOT need a 2k espresso machine at home (unless they are sick in the head like me :D ) But Ive fallen down this rabbit hole almost 20 years ago now, My silvia, I have PID'd to give you an idea how tweaker I can get with it when I want to play. A simple 2 to 300 dollar machine can make a very stand up espresso, but as you should know. The grinder is a CRITICAL part as well in making a good espresso. I never did get into the espresso / cappucino art, Im lucky to get the 30 second thing down let alone draw pictures with it :D

Aaron
My espresso maker is a stove top...30$ love it lol means I can have espresso when I camp! Grind and pack are super important in both machine and stove top maker for sure. Right there next to good beans. Though I don't think I would ever have a big machine don't have that kind of counter space

Oh but Miss silvia is the size of a mr coffee brewer to be honest. I'll have to bring her out and fire up a cappy to let you see. dammit that's 2 videos i owe you now. the capy now and the digging a garden with the post digger. I may do those tomorrow, pill up early, get out there get that out of the way, post the vids then run right into the new beans I am getting ready to advertise and distribute !!

Yes you can get one of those little steam toy mr coffee espresso machines but they are laughable at best at what they give you and you chef would probably machete you if you even mentioned to im to do that for you :D

so much for retirement but I actually LOVE videos like this because it gets things accomplished and gets promotion. I am starting a new channel which is going to be oh I don't know what to call it. Just, do it yourself and survival thing. When it hits the fan and you don't have a windshield wiper. how to take care of yourself for a change. Bees, Gardening, Coffee Roasting, Raising Chickens, Growing fruits and veggies, freeze drying, I did say bees, moon the apiary, eventually maybe a how to for butchering if we get to that point. Just a general educational channel that people cango to see how to do general stuff in a quaint little redneck way... probably a time or 5 of how NOT to do stuff, or how to save your ass when you DO really screw the pooch trying something, etc etc. Will it make a million dollars, umm nope BUT if it is able to help ONE person learn stuff, that helps them down the road, gets them out of a jamdown the road, or saves them down the road, then I can die knowing I truly DID leave a positive influence on the world.

I will need to catch up on all the posts in the morning. @Sally PB - got my package today! You are awesome! Thank you so much!

I went to a Whiskey Myers concert tonight. First concert I've attended in I don't remember how long... Had a great time.

Harvested two handfuls of black eyed peas, watered the citrus, cut back the Cuban oregano and threw it in the coopsโ€ฆ..seriously what is this plant good for lol?! I canโ€™t cook with it, I canโ€™t dehydrate it, the birds wonโ€™t eat it, idk.
But it smells so good when you brush by it! ๐Ÿคฃ

My kids like to chop it up and sprinkle it on their pizza. We have regular oregano too but they always grab that stuff. I always grab the regular oregano for eating ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. But I do love the smell of that stuff and the varigated is really pretty to boot.

The first time I had Starbucks coffee, I thought I must have gotten the dregs of the pot that had been on the burner all day. Nope. I cannot fathom WHY anyone would buy that stuff?? How did it get so popular? SMH.

Sbux is actually a classic marketing study. It is about the fact that they are selling an โ€œexperienceโ€. That is why it became so popular. That, and there is some history to it too. Original owner to new ownerโ€ฆthink thatโ€™s who catapulted them into the stratosphere. But, they took a mundane item (coffee) and packaged it up into an experience.

I find their coffee too burnt. I do like their espresso. When I would travel for work, Iโ€™d just get a double shot of espresso and drink it black. Then I was ready for the travel and not holding a cup along with luggage, etc. but, Iโ€™ve been drinking black coffee since I was young, and prefer black coffee, but occasionally in the mood for some cream/milk addition.
