What did you do in the garden today?

I have a salsa bread I make that's absokinlutely wonderful !!, that I put pulled beef on, with the onions and peppers and shrooms that I stewed with it, a big slice of pepper jack, some russian dressing and you got yourself a redneck ruben that'll knock your socks off !!
Recipe please?
Yep. Just got busy with school, etc and haven't had much of a garden or any chicken questions. I got a new phone yesterday and decided to login.
Good to hear from you again. Hope all is going well.

Made 6 more pints of peach preserves yesterday and 7 pints of tomato sauce out of a combination of fresh tomatoes and 11lbs of frozen from late last year. Waste not want not.

My neighbor would like some sand, and will trade chicken run compost for it. I have really sandy soil in one of my gardens, so we're going to swap. I spent some time moving buckets of sand to a location that is easily accessible in the garden, near the gate. That way I can get the areas where the sand was ready for planting garlic.

I think my arms are an inch longer. :gig

I also fenced in a corner of the garden to make a compost pile for weeds/grass/etc. It can sit for a couple years and do its thing. It's a lot closer than the compost pile where I dump kitchen waste and chicken poop.

Just finished canning 6 more half pints of spicy peach salsa. DD picked up the Concord grapes I need to make jam and some apples. I’m not making apple sauce this year. I still have 3 pints left from last year. I’m planning on combining some green tomatoes with my tomatillos to make salsa verde then I’m done. The canner will be retired to the basement until next year. The new dog Chloe is getting along much better with my little guy Max today. That’s good so maybe I can get caught up on some work.

Harvested a bunch of hot peppers:

Eleven half-pints of pickled sweet and mild peppers cooling on the counter. First time I've tried that, so I'm hoping to have peppers for recipes this winter. Todays harvest of colored tomatoes and peppers:

Hot (for us) here today, 88 degrees so there should still be red tomatoes coming. Hopefully there will be more time so I don't have to pick all the really green ones yet. I'll be making green tomato relish again but I'm going to try making chow chow too with cabbage an green tomatoes. No clue if I'll like it or not but it sounds interesting.

Well. I went shopping today, I was at the grocery store dropping off empty honey jars to a customer and figured what the hell. I walk in and they have this HUGE sale going on. They are the generic brand, IGA, but it's all sorts of veggies and the likes, Green Beans, Corn, Okra, etc. All canned, the 16 oz cans. Mixed veggies etc. 5 cans for 4 dollars. I have ate them before and all things considered they are NOT that bad, and thankfully NOT that salty either like some of the generic crap can be to try to cover awful taste. How can you beat that price? You can't. Can's will last some years so i stashed them away. You can also just dump the water out, throw them right on a freeze dryer tray, dehydrate them and then they'll last 25 years, and are a lot lighter too. They can take up a little bit less room too if you decide to vac pack them. Either way, with the way things are going, I want to have some carbs and quick veggies around for if times start getting rough. Now if only I was 25 years old again with the energy I used to have and not busted up body I used to have :)
