What did you do in the garden today?

Just brought the lemon tree inside since temps are going to drop like a lead balloon next week. Leaf drop in 5...4...3....

Lemons are so finicky. And now I'm pooped. Still have to bring in my pineapple starts.

Okay, my research on mesquite pods seems to suggest it can replace a large quantity of chicken feed. One article stated that using up to 20% mesquite pods regularly is acceptable and that chickens handle it quite well. Same article stated that in times when grain is hard to get, mesquite pods can be used solely for a while. Fascinating stuff.

Normal garden chores today!

Good morning all. Great color @jerryse. Your dog is adorable, is that a corgi mix? I started working on the garden clean up the other day. The okra are totally done. I still have some small bell peppers growing and an eggplant or two. I picked a nice handful of green tomatoes and left a couple of tomato plants that had a surprising bunch of tomatoes still developing. Not very common here in New England. There’s also a few more tomatillos still growing larger. I’m pleasantly surprised that we haven’t had a widespread frost here yet. Rainy day here today and through tomorrow morning. We may get close to 2 inches. Still not enough to bring us out of an extreme drought. I’m hoping for a lot of snow this winter to help restore the water table. The new property sounds great @Elyrian1. Pretty much a blank slate to design your homestead to your needs. Best of luck with that.

red rangers are tastier than white meat chickens.

have you ever considered raising rabbits for meat? they breed like mice, grow fast and provide huge amount of manure.
I have heard that about rabbits, but don't you need even yet another separate feed for them too now? also they fight and kill each other too I also heard. we were going to raise some on the farm but the neighbors dog got in one night and took them all out.

I think i had rabbit once or twice been a long long time and don't think i liked it much. im gonna have to revisit that and see.

Having a tough time getting going this morning! Feel fine, but just one of those mornings. I just ate two cold (cooked over the fire a few days ago) hot dogs out of the fridge if that’s any indication on how unmotivated I am. At least I’m not hungry now…just thirsty bc of the salt. :gig

Yesterday, I canned split pea soup (10 pints), and red hot apples (9 pints). Then I washed I think every pot and cutting instrument I own. Lol.

Garden: mustard looks great! Turnips look great (small white salad type), still have carrots to pull, but need to process a few more bags of the ones I’ve collected and washed -I think I still have 10 packed gallon bags full. Parsnips will hopefully be good -haven’t picked them yet, and cannot see any shoulders, so not sure if I’ll find much or not as we have never grown them. Still have done beets out there, but they are small- I’ll pick them soon, boil them and either can or vacuum seal for freezer.
