What did you do in the garden today?

So sorry @Paz. Grandparents are the best, they hold so much experience & knowledge that it's always a huge loss when we lose them.

FYI you can eat the excess . Like a potato .
Seriously!? Who knew! I'll have to google that, thanks for bringing it up.

Chilly out there again. Going to make a big pot of tuscan chicken soup with some of the broth & chicken I made (2 chickens in the pressure cooker from frozen - came out great). I'll can the rest of the broth tomorrow. I got probably 16-18 quarts.

Anyone spatchcock big(ish) turkeys? I got two 20+ lb frozen ones on sale & I'm not sure they'll fit in my oven - it's a split oven, small on top & medium on the bottom. I'd like to try & spatchcock them if they'll cook well.

Hurricane is passing through, windy, rainy, crappy, everything is blowing around. Just a chill /// wet chill down to your bones, don't want to do anything except sit in my comfy chair with my bankie wrapped around me.. you know what, F this, i owe myself a down day for once in a year or so? today is it... where's the damned chocolate at, im making myself some cocoa, going to lock the brat in the upstairs bathroom so he can't bother me and just.. well... how do you do nothing? I don't even know what to do when I have nothing to do.... I better google that :D

Garden made it through the hurricane. One of the tomatoes fell over after the wind switched but didn't snap, so it's back up and staked better. The eye went over me last night, that was a pleasant hour with just some crickets chirping and no wind. Will clean up tomorrow after the wind dies down more.

From what I hear, the black walnuts can take 25 years to start producing nuts. I remember as a child, my great grandfather had one and when it started putting out nuts id have to collect them. I did nOT like the tree and never understood what the big deal was about it, until I was actually old enough to learn and appreciate that.

I was seriously considering putting some down here too on my property but THAT right there, turned me off it. Now that I think on it, ok ill be early 80's. I'll call it the Paco Ass Spanking Paddle Branch Tree.. and tell him im growing a paddle to whoop him with, and as SOON as the tree is old nuff he's gonn gitsa BIG serprize.

Worse case, it gives me something to look forward to for the next 20 plus years.

Grandma always said it took 10 Years . However I have seen them a little sooner and a lot later . One took 15 years . Fertilty and water can make a big difference .

Nothing really happening in the garden today. I did pull the last of the carrots and gave them to the chickens. DD hurt her knee pretty bad yesterday evening in dance class. Spent a few hours in the ER. Now we’re back at the hospital so she can get an MRI. It seems to be just a bad sprain, but we’ll know for sure after the test results. I’m hoping to get at least the south side of the chicken run wrapped before the remnants of that Tropical Storm comes through tomorrow afternoon. It’s still not cold enough to wrap the whole thing. Good to hear your Father is doing well @Elyrian1. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I’m not too worried about cleaning up the leaves. I only need to rake up the leaves in the chicken yard to use in the garden. All the other leaves will get blown back into the woods behind my fence. That usually only takes a couple of hours. Same with cleaning the gutters. Hopefully nothing else crazy happens and I can take care of all that no later than next week. Have a great day all.

So we don’t ever get snow, although last year when I lived in Jerusalem, it snew, it was my first snow ever. Anyway we got some rain, and that means weeding…
Also, here is my first batch of Bluahilde Bohnen.View attachment 3318128
There’s something on my mango leaf, and I don’t know what that isView attachment 3318129
And sadly grandpa Julio passed away a few hours ago in the hospital, ceremony will be held in 40 minutes. He was fine up until two weeks ago.
Now I only have one grandfather left.
bet you all are laughing because you have GRANDCHILDREN.
Sorry for your loss

Well, we are still getting winds from the storm, blowing crap all over, not sure what the hell happened here but somehow it sucked one of the screens right off one of my windows which ended up in the yard. Man I am glad I layed my plants all over on their sides, they'd have been wrecked with this wind. My orange tree which is not layed over is NOT happy. so far thank god I did not lose any of my blood oranges so hopefully they hang on for another month at least to really ripen up and get sweet for me.

We have turned one end of the chicken run into a goat pen. We will get 2 Nigerian Dwarf girls soon. We won’t mate them until next winter bc they are only about 7 months old right now. Two doors installed bc when they have babies, they will need their own pen each. We will put up clear panels to block the upper wire walls from weather. The lower boards all around are shiplapped to minimize air intrusion.

Teen is excited for goats -only been wanting them for about 3 years.
