What did you do in the garden today?

My DH picked up 2 ricks of wood for $40 and a carton of menthols. 😂 Nice trade, eh?

On another note, my MIL told me that my FIL is going to buy a new tractor. They are going to give their current one to DH as a surprise. It's a Kubota with a front end loader and brush mower. Maybe 15 yrs old? Not bad... He doesn't know yet.
Nice gift! I love my little kubota, I do everything with that tractor. It makes turning the compost a breeze.

Chilly here with the wind chill. Glad everything is winterized.

I hiked up the hill to the green house. The snow was a couple inches below my knee, so a good workout. I swept off what I could reach of the snow on the roof.

It was 32 degrees in there. Outside got down to about 18 last night. I'm hoping for some sunshine to warm it up. We haven't had any in a few days.

One of the spinach seedlings looked a little the worse for wear, but the rest looked ok. Just growing veeeeeeerrrrry sloooooowly.

Incredibly windy today. OMG! It’s around 32F but the wind chill is around 22F. Bare minimum out of doors today. I did move the French lavender planters from in front of the chicken yard. Will move them onto the front porch tomorrow when it’s safer to be outside. There are chunks of bark getting blown around.

Several weeks ago we butchered 8 roosters. Thawed them out last night and am just NOW getting around to canning them. Got 1 batch (out of 3-4) of legs & thighs cooked in the Instant Pot. It produced 2 quart-sized jars of shredded meat and 4 pint-sized jars of broth. Got another batch in the Instant Pot now... At this rate, I won't actually be using the pressure canner until late tonight. I'm a bit anxious because I'm going to use the canner on my ceramic stove top. I know this is iffy but the canner has a flat bottom and Presto says to check with the manufacturer. My stove is a Maytag and it indicates you can use the big burner for canning so I'm going to try... 👀

The big thing is, make sure the 'ring of fire' is under the pot, not surrounding it on the outside of it, the heat needs to go up into the pot and it senses it underneath the pot.

If the heat ring is outside the diameter of the pot, a lot of it may be going up in the air and youd be better off with the smaller circle and a higher setting because that at least is putting all the heat up IN to the pot.

I looked at that closely and it seems to line up where the burner circle on the stove top matches the flat portion of the pressure canner so the heat should be directly on the pot.

I use my presto pressure canner on my flat /glass top GE stove. My canner fits 7 quarts max, so not huge. The stove manual indicated it was ok. I use it on my large burner- small ring size bc that is what fits the thick bottom on the canner.
