What did you do in the garden today?

Hey all. Surgery went well, nerve was super compressed so I have some instant relief. But man, this surgery was much more painful than the first. I have decided no garden this year for sure, it will just be too soon with the new back. Looks like strawberries & garlic it is, lol. oh & of course the volunteer cherry golds that will come up.

I can’t believe how cold its been for some of you! I think we’re in single digits & neg windchill but I have no intentions of leaving the house to find out! It did turn to snow when the temps plummeted, hopefully it didn’t turn out to be anything.

i wish DH would get up, I’m hungry! Stay warm all!
So happy you’re getting some relief Sueby, heal fast well!
Merry Christmas Eve all. Glad the surgery went well @Sueby. The low this morning was 7F with a slight breeze. The high for today will be 16F with some wind. Brrr! But we have about 2 inches of light fluffy snow for a white Christmas. Yay!
Glad you enjoy the white Christmas Sarah! I was listening to that song yesterday in the car and thinking back to childhood Christmases with snow. I’d like to visit, but don’t want to live with it lol.

Well, it's 18 degrees in florida. Everything is frozen ass solid. I have to bring a bowl of warm water out to the girls so they can drink. The tilapia pond lost about 12 degrees last night is about 56 degrees now. hmm i need to figure this out better, i have the pump running so there is movement and the pipes don't burst, and the water is restricted to just a teeny trickle across the cover so it's not this big showery taking all the heat away from it but it's still, the 1500 watt heater is not keeping up. Might need to get a bucket heater for the next few days.

Anything that was alive, is crispy now. The citrus is holding I guess. We will see in the next few days on that one. brr it's cold

Don't give up the garden yet. The first two weeks plain sucks. Everything hurts, but after 8 weeks or so and the therapy you'll honestly be able to move around without much pain at all, if all went well in the surgery. Glad it went well, now stay put for about a week and you'll be doing much better afterwards.

recipe, please!
Very simple!

10 Apples (I used gala)
1.5 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon
1 Tablespoon Allspice
4 qt water

Quartered the apples and threw them into the pot, peels, core, and all. Added the rest of the ingredients.

Bring to a boil over Medium-high heat. Boil for an hour then reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours. Strain through a sieve or cheesecloth. Serve hot or chill and serve cold. Keep refrigerated.

OK... Now the original recipe called for just 1 cup of sugar. After going through the process above, I tasted it and it seemed a little bland so I brought it back to a boil for a few minutes, added a half cup more sugar and a tsp more cinnamon. That seemed to do the trick.

I let the pulp cool down a tad and then gave it as a warm treat to my horses and chickens.

Haven't posted in a while, not much goin on in the garden. It's been below freezins since about 5PM on Wednesday. Doesn't get that cold here very often and usually does not stay this long. My newly constructed greenhouse didn't perform as I'd hoped. Mrs Lobo had 6 potted plumeria in it and a few other tropicals. Leaves are all wilted on everything. Will see later (coming spring?) if the plants survive. Plants, mostly citrus, all over the yard, covered with blankets. And when we ran outta blankets we used tarps and anything we could find.

I ended up making some last night after I saw your. So yummy! I used what I had, apple juice, cranberry juice, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
