What did you do in the garden today?

sorry for your loss. to be honest I expected more trouble with that little guy.

I am (or supposed to be) a school teacher but with these today's kids and "do not hit or spank" parents I prefer chickens. unfortunately most of kids raised that way end up in jail. they did not have the opportunity to learn they cannot do whatever they want to.
That little guy took the paper out of my printer and stepped on each one and put it back, and his list is getting longer. He threw a piece of candy behind the chair of his grandma's house today at our new year party. Its a good thing my niece told us about it or it would have attracted ants. Now that I think about it, I gave him a sweet grape, but didn't watch him eat it? I wonder if he ate it?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Finally got time to take the grand tour of the garden to look at the damage. It got as low at 12-14 F and stayed below freezing a long time. We had rain before the cold but saw got no snow. I am pleased although things are burnt most are still alive. Even picked some stuff for the chickens and they attacked those greens happily! I think as long as nothing crazy happens I'll be able to harvest seed from the collards. I'd love to carry these genetics forward!
Camelia blooms are toast but the smaller buds look good. Hope to see some bloom with this warmer weather. Gardenias are damaged but I think they will recover.
Feeling a bit crummy today. Several people who were visiting over Christmas tested positive for Covid. And my son tested positive for strep.
Sorry you're having to deal with this. Take care, don't over do.
No motivation to do much of anything
Today...me either!
I was going to try to tough it out until monday but it's getting really bad swollen and turning all sorts of colors now so I figure i best get it looked at.
WOW! That looks bad. You really need that looked at soon! I've had a broken foot. It is painful and will look much worse before it heals.
It’s official! We get to talk about this year’s garden, planting and harvest!!
Oh, yes! Bring it own! Was checking out my seed supply yesterday. I may "need" a few things. 🤪

Hi guys! The snow covered everything a few weeks back. Surprisingly, after Christmas it has been 40-50 degrees every day, and it’s all melted. My garden is a muddy mess. I did find an old Brussels Sprouts plant that didn’t quite grow, and some celery I didn’t pull. Chickens loved the treat when I gave it to them. Hoping it doesn’t rain today so I can pull a few more things, maybe kale for the family & any other ruined remnants for the chickens. Weird weather…I would love it to stay 30-40 until spring, but that is almost impossible in NY.

Happy New Year, gardeners! I think I'll be foraging for weeds in the garden for the chickens sometime in the next couple days.

I need to inventory my seeds with a clear head, not under the influence of the garden porn (seed catalogs). I still "need" a few things. And then I need to figure out where to put them. Things like sweet potatoes and spaghetti squash take a lot of room, so I'll start with where those go, and then put other things around them.

Every time I go into the chicken run, I think, "Wow, there's a ton of GREAT compost here!"

I’m a sucker for the garden “porn” - I’ve set all catalogues to one spot by the couch. I’ll be perusing them soon. Of course, I’ve already ordered seeds from 3 places…

Happy New Year!

Its warm out there, took a walk & gave the girls some meal worms. They all look great, most all thru the molt. I still have 2 laying but am into store bought eggs now. Unfortunately the nest box cover is too heavy for me to lift with my 5lb weight limit so DH will be on chicken duty for quite some time. But I turned the corner yesterday & am getting some relief from the pain, thankfully.

I hope everyone enjoys the last of the weekend! Don’t buy too many seeds! Or yea, go ahead & buy them. 😜
