What did you do in the garden today?

Picked up two more rose bushes today - a white florabunda and a dark red tea rose. Now I Just gotta figure out where to put them.... 🤔 Since I've pretty much killed off (accidently) my yacon so maybe I can plant the roses in those raised beds. I tried to overwinter the yacon in the garage like I did last year. Only we got a really warm spell out of the blue and it caused my yacon to mold really badly. I tried to kill off the mold with neem and bleach but it got worse. I don't think they will be salvageable. I had split the crowns from 2 into 4 so maybe I'll be lucky and ONE will survive. Who knows....

I also worked in the garden a little bit today. Pulled up 2 big wagonloads of compost and dumped it in the broccoli bed and in part of the hoop house. I've got 30 days until I start actually putting things (lettuce, carrots, etc) in the ground. The peach trees are at bud swell. I'm praying that we don't get an unexpected freeze that kills off any chance of peaches this year.

We're not to the bud swell stage yet. Really hoping they hold off for a month. :fl

I'll be nervous from when I see them swell till Memorial Day!

My gut says it's going to freeze at some point in the next 4 - 5 weeks. The weather has simply been so wonky this year. Oh well, I'll expect it to freeze and hope for the best. My trees are still small...under 7 ft. Maybe I can cover them with a tarp or something as a last resort.

Oh...Just remembered that the asparagus is coming up too!

I got gravel down in the greenhouse finally. I wanted black smooth stones, but settled for river rock worth brown tones because it was $3.99/bag. I used 14 bags (7 cubic feet), and the gravel beds are filled perfectly. No pics, sorry. I need to rinse the gravel off just, and then the floor is nearly finished - just need to put the polymer sand in in the pavers after cleaning up everything first.

The greenhouse still drops to pretty cold at night, but I'm hopefully I'll be able to get plants in there by the start of April. I'll save power on the grow lights, so if I have to run a small heater it shouldn't cost much more than running the grow lights and heat mats - maybe I could get away with just the heat mats even, keeping the soil warm.
