What did you do in the garden today?

It is such a hard impulse to control, too! I don't know of anybody on this thread who doesn't have that same struggle!

You GUYS!! After being on here learning about chickens for almost 3 years, I believe THIS is the year we are going to get chickens! We officially earmarked some money for a coop built by some of the Amish nearby, and I already bought hardware cloth for the run! That's actual, real life, tangible progress! Next is refreshing my knowledge on brooding supplies and how to raise chicks! I'm so excited!!:wee:bun:ya:celebrate
Yaaaaaaay!!! 🐓🐥

Wow that is a lot of Eagles! We have a breeding pair that live on our small lake, with a couple of last years babies. Its always such a treat to see them & I am always shocked at just how dang big they are! One flew over while I was driving & my very first thought was a low lying plane!

Good morning gardeners. Today is supposed to be nice, mid 70s and at least partly sunny. Tomorrow, 60 for a high with wind and rain possible. I feel some whiplash from these sharp turns! The plants are coming along though. I have this grass clump thing that was just about killed from the cold, but there are little green wisps of color mixed in. I’m leaving that alone until the wild swings stop. So far my new Arabian lilacs are hanging on too. The dogs were playing rough and tumbly games and knocked over my hydroponic seed starts :barnieso I’m starting new today and moved the stand to a new place in the livingroom. I’m dragging the kids out once again to clean up yet again. We had some 60 MPH winds this week and there’s little bits of junk that blew in all over the yard. Hubs was irritated that I dug up the fruit trees so we’re going to replace. I need to read more about fertigation, I might set up buckets for those trees before it gets hot. I also need to make some cages from a roll of wire to keep the chickens away from a few things. Oh, and my daughter got me this mesh foraging bag. So far it has only collected small weeds and cackle berries, but I really like it. That and an old coffee can with a rope handle to carry few tools seem to come in handy a LOT. Time for a few indoor chores before the Sun comes up, see y’all later.

So glad to hear you are going to get chickens. I love my little flock of 7 and I do not think you will ever regret it. Especially with egg prices

Good frosty morning gardeners and welcome to the gardening thread @Heirloom Grown. No outdoor gardening today in zone 5B. The temperature when I finally rolled out of bed was 4F. Fortunately no wind. It was 18F inside the chicken coop when I took the crew fresh water and fed them early. It will be sunny most of the day so it will be warm inside the chicken run. I got distracted yesterday and I didn’t checkout my cart of herb seeds. I did some searching and found that the crocuses that produce saffron can be grown in zone 5. Also want to grow mustard for salads and the seeds. I know some of you here grow mustard. Thoughts? Advice? Time to get moving. I’m pretty much ready for the next winter storm. I may have to pick up some more melty stuff later today. Have a great day all!

New here,

I started getting seed starting supplies ready. I live in zone 5. Always plant my seeds way to early:oops: trying to control my impulse to plant.
Welcome, @Heirloom Grown! This is a really nice, friendly thread. (The baking thread is too, if you like to bake.) Wide range of people, ages, growing zones, experiences, knowledge levels.
If you have any questions, go ahead and ask! :thumbsup

You can put your location in your profile, and then everyone can get an idea of what your growing conditions are. Just the state is fine. :)

I'm in zone 5b (Michigan has a wide range of zones/conditions, lol), and yeah, I can't wait to get my hands dirty.

Sorry to hear about the seed starts. At least you have plenty of time to get some more started!
I'll have to look up a foraging bag, sounds interesting!

I noticed that egg prices went down the other day! From $5.something/dozen to $4.something/dozen, so that's nice. I do look forward to all the compost and eggs and pest control and yard/garden work and meat I'll be able to get from them!
