What did you do in the garden today?

I dug a bucket of weeds for the chickens today. I could have done 4-5 more, but had to...

Order some honey bees!!! We just bought a hive (and the other stuff) today. Found out about it Tuesday, and when I looked into buying the items separately, we really got a deal at $400. (Hive, suit, smoker, extractor, and a whole bunch of other things.) I'll go get the bees on May 6, and a friend will help me install them.

Now I need to go through all my seeds and look at any bee friendly stuff I have, and order/buy some more. We have lots of fruit trees in the area (ours and other wild apple).

Back to garden stuff...

I think I'm going to plant potatoes next week, or maybe Easter weekend. I also want to plant some more tomato seeds; I have some empty pots, and I have the space for the plants. I think I'll do a second row of shorter season ones in my "downhill" garden, as it gets less some, and the cold air settles there, since it's in a valley.

It's sunny right now, and I want the green house to warm up (it will), as we're getting storms for the next couple of days. Not too cold, but without sunshine, the green house doesn't warm up.

I feel like I wasted a very nice day. Tired and not feeling like doing anything. I will be near the big box stores Monday. Some garden stuff will likely come home.

Went to Lowes and spent far less than I expected. Lots of stuff on sale. Got 10 bags of mulch for $20. Got 3 ft x 100 ft of landscape fabric for $20 too. But mostly I'm excited because I picked up the drain tile I needed so now I can get started on the new strawberry beds!

I'm at the making the choice between chewing and breathing, and sleepy but can't sleep.

Yup. Using Naväge twice a day right now and taking allergy pills and still can’t sleep or breathe when I chew.

How do you use the drain tiles for a strawberry bed?

Also, since you have strawberries, I am wondering if a chicken wire topper on my raised bed would keep out whatever ate all my strawberries last year? I have something like 24 strawberry plants in that raised bed, but managed to only get about 4 or 5 strawberries picked before they were all eaten - I assume by birds, squirrels, or chipmunks. This year I am determined to grow them under some kind of protection.

Good afternoon all. I watered a few things this morning before work, that’s the extent of my gardening today. I’ll need to fix one of the auto waterers on Saturday, it’s not siphoning water and it was dark when I was out there. I’m not going out again, it’s cold and windy and I’m tired after work so it’ll have to wait. Poor dog is itchy from allergies too, she goes next week to get a shot.

Some small birds can fit through chicken wire, get some with small holes, or cover it also with bird netting; or use hardware cloth instead. I doubt bird netting alone would keep out squirrels and chipmunks.

I've got nothing for the Navage. I'm just swollen. I worked outside in 50mph winds in the garden today. I'm doomed. LOL
