What did you do in the garden today?

Y’all probably don’t wanna know why I didn’t post any updated gardening pics last week but I’m just going to go ahead and share what happened with you anyways cause I’m sure most of you will understand. 🤬…So last week, I was outside cleaning up my yard and rearranging chicken coop houses…I came across 2-3 mouse nests hidden underneath the dirt around my biggest coop and they all scurried towards my house…They found their way into my house and started eating my indoor garden plants. Here’s some pics of how much damage they caused:

I notice that one of my roosters stop crowing, so I took off his rooster collar. The next morning I heard him crow a few time, but it was not as loud as it used to be. I think he is aware of what will happen if he makes too much noise. I gave him a lot of treats and increased his food ration. :love

My brother stopped by today to pick up some eggs and he shared something he discovered on You Tube. He lightly tapped the round part of an egg with a spoon until it made a cracking sound, but the egg had no visible crack. Then we boiled the eggs and the egg shell came off with out sticking to the white part.

That’s terrible!! Hope you catch/kill them all.

Keep them away from any underground water sources such as pipes, septic fields, etc. Their roots can and will destroy in their quest for water, can cost you $$$.

@Swiss. A word of caution, don't plant them anywhere near water or sewer lines. Their roots will zero in on the source of any type of water and create an expensive havoc there. You beat me to it @fuzzi. LOL!
Yes! I did know this, but thanks for the reminder(s)! I'm planning on putting them out in the meadow, unless my research tells me otherwise.

Pics today:

Two bleeding heart plants coming back. Thee's a 3rd one I didn't look for yet.

Those plants are beautiful!! How satisfying! You grew these all from seed, right?

@AMM10 that happened to my friend last year, mice ate all of his starts. How frustrating. We have a lot of mice here & it’s a constant battle. Best we have found is multiple types of traps & set them with peanut butter & a bit of bird seed on top. They learn traps after a while so we use multiple types. I hate those little b@$+@(&$!

@BReeder! - looking good!

Good morning gardeners. The rodent swarm has hit me in the past. However, mine were voles. As soon as I discovered this I switched from MouseX to VoleX. They were gone within a week. Now I'm in the process of evicting rats from the chicken coop and run. They moved in when the forest was decimated. There wasn't much I could do until the ice melted away from the chicken coop. Now I feed the chickens in their chicken yard. After 2 days the rats are vacating the coop and looking for food outside of the run. I'll continue feeding my flock in the chicken yard until I can repair their entryways. I'll also be gifting the little varmints with their very own buffet of RatX. Not to worry, there's no risk of secondary poisoning with these products. So yesterday, I planted one 16 foot row of peas and that was all. The bed where I am putting the kale and carrots was still a little frozen so I finished fixing the garden fence and Chloe proofing the fence near the chicken yard. I also cleaned up the flower bed in the front yard so you can actually see the daffodils and tulips emerging. My BES plant survived the arctic blast and is putting out leaves. I put the geraniums outside but not the lavender. I'm so sorry about your herbs @Sueby. The sage may still be alive. Give it some time (and water) to see if the root survived. I bought seeds just in case my herbs didn't make it. Today is laundry day but I still plan getting on with the planting. I've already dug a trench to plant another row of peas and will follow that with a row of carrots and that 16 foot garden bed will be planted. I still need to put in some netting for the peas to climb on. They only get up to 30 inches tall but they'll still need some support. After that it's over to the big garden to plant the leeks and onions. I'll likely wait until tomorrow to plant the kale, pak choy and another row of carrots. Happy planting all!
