Dutch nesting with Hooky while she lays her egg. This is one of my favorite rooster behaviors. They were bukbukking and purring to each other.

Two and a half hours this afternoon. The sun shone and it didn't rain!
I took them out and marched them around for an hour.

One and a half hours. It just hasn't stopped raining.

Lost two more pullets in the past 24 hours. the last two silver Leghorns make it through whatever took the other three. There was a virus going through the flock but that particular group didn’t seem as poorly as the other. And the little ones had no symptoms so perhaps their habit of sleeping on the ground in the cold is to blame. The Leghorns have taken to roosting so I hope that helps them out. Fully expected to lose a BCM who still isn’t 100 percent. She’s always been the weakest of the flock but she’s still here and doing better than I expected, no longer showing symptoms, foraging normally and following her rooster boyfriend around. He is sleeping in the barn now with the pullets and so she is doing the same though not roosting. She has taken to sleeping in the old feed trough. Definitely won’t be using her eggs for hatching.

One and a half hours. Got lucky with the rain and frog marched them out on to the field. Got around three quarters of an hour out on the field.
