What did you do in the garden today?

We have lows in the 30s for the next few nights. Tonight could be 35; a LOT better than the 32 they forecast last week. I think everything will be ok... :fl

I'm digging up what will be the Bee Bed. It's full of grass. Right now, I'm just turning it shovel at a time. The area is too narrow to get the tiller into.

Dumb question... why is a shovel shaped more like a spade from a deck of cards, yet called a shovel!?! And a spade (digging tool) isn't?

I get them confused.
That is a VERY good question! 😂

I've finally got the basic frame done on the arbor extension. It's not pretty, but it is functional and, in this economy, my goal is to get as much done as I can and worry about it being pretty some other time.

I can now plant my hardy kiwis and I'll add cross boards as the season progresses. I'm taking out the two Wisteria. Thought I'd see about making this one into a mantle piece.

.
Time to clean up that project and pour more cement.

Oh, and THIS dog... Buddy... he ate an entire quart of chick poo I'd cleaned out from my brooder and was saving for fertilizing ... Grrrr....
He's going to remain outside for the rest of the day.

I wonder.... all of us with seasonal allergies ~ Has anyone tried local, raw honey? I've heard it can help.

We use local raw honey and when our allergies get really bad we'll also use bee pollen. Some things still aggravate my husband's allergies, like the grass, but it helps a lot.

I thought that it was Royal Jelly that was what was the helpful stuff related to bees.

Local honey is always best when dealing with allergies because those bees will be visiting the plants that actually grow close to you. You also need to make sure that whoever you're getting the honey from doesn't heat it too much, killing off some of the benefits.

Bee pollen is even better for allergies but usually more expensive and it's usually harder to find local sources for it, but all honey will contain some of that pollen as long as it's not over processed like the grocery store stuff.

I painted stones to look like strawberries to train the birds to give up. LOL
I hope it works!

I also hope to paint rocks for plant labels, but it remains to be seen if I'll get a Round Tuit.
The strawberry stones are next on my list. I'm out of red paint, so monday/tuesday.
The label stones are painted and drying as we speak. I'll label tonight and clear coat tomorrow.
Winds are HOWLING 40mph.
