What did you do in the garden today?

Those are plastic to scare the squirrels away. It did not stop them from eating all my apples last year though.
My chickens would only eat a snake if we killed it first.

I made a hardware cloth cage for my grape vine those pesky squirrels were checkin it out. lol They are not getting my grapes!

I still have to cut a hardware cloth top for it. But I think it will work.

I got another load of horse manure today. I am spreading it out in rows for my GMO corn. I am going to plant the corn 36 inches apart in rows and about 9 inches apart in the row. I have had real good luck growing grass in my pasture with the manure so I am going to try corn. It is in no way organic. I burnt the grass off with roundup and I am spreading the manure right on top of the ground. I am also mixing in some ammonia nitrate before planting. This is my experiment for this year. I have already put some Hickory King corn in the ground. But I am waiting for the soil temps to rise before planting my Obsession corn. I am going to compare yield and eating quality.

Sounds great Dan and Pc.

My Dh worked the pasture today he burned off all the brush and leaves. We have 5 trees down on that side of the pasture. So a lot of clean up to be done.

My husband is carrying water in that sprayer. lol

It is amazing how fast it will green up after you burn it, isn't it?. We have been mowing the yard in our spare time. I won't complain too much about it this year because it takes rain for the grass to grow. I still have a lot of spring cleaning to do around the place.

I'm trying to remove these enormous weed/things and they keep coming back!! Does anyone know what they are? They have a seriously deep rhizome like taproot, and they are perennial. They also grow a big giant stalk if I let them. Help, I can't seem to get them dug completely up, but if theyre something beneficial, I'll leave them be. Here are a few pics of the greenery in question....

*oh, also...whatever it is, is it safe to feed to the chickens? It's kind of slimy..
