What did you do in the garden today?

I noticed a bunch of ants on my peach tree yesterday & a few leaves have been eaten by something. Not sure if it's related or not! I did not see aphids, but I can't get down there to check super good. I read a neat article on ants farming aphids - interesting but questionable.

Not much happening in the garden, everything is growing well (cept the lettuce, lol). We cooked a turkey yesterday so now I'm making broth for soup. I've run out of canned broth & actually had to buy some! :tongue I don't see canning this year in my future, no clue what I'm going to do for gifts!
It is definitely a thing that ants do! It's crazy!
Whoa, expensive!
Yeah, I looked at them after hearing him mention them all the time and thought the same thing.
I love the sign! Fingers crossed you can catch the little bugger. We have a bunch of moles in our yard but fortunately they don't seem to mess with the garden, they just leave mounds for me to trip over, lol.
Thanks! I love it, too! We have moles everywhere, and they drive me nuts. They pick the worst spots to tunnel and to leave those giant trash mounds. I need to get more traps. We have two, but one can be stopped by a clump of sand, so I don't use it as it won't catch anything.

There is a guy down the road that sells those big square water tanks in metal cages (if you know what I'm talking about, I'm sure they have a name) - that might be an idea too. I bought the rain barrel from him, which is a food grade barrel, for $25 so I know he has them too.
Oh yeah, people sell those big ones around here, too! What a great idea - cut them in half and now you have 2 4x4 raised beds, take the cage part and wrap some chicken wire around it and voila, the perfect compost bin.

Nowadays, it seems like so many products are designed to be unfixable if they break. For some items that can be fixed, it's often cheaper just to buy a new one. I like to fix what I can, but even I know that sometimes it makes much more sense to buy a new one - and that runs against my nature...
It's definitely against my nature, too! Makes me mad that a handle would be more expensive than a whole new shovel.
I know there's currently talk of "right to fix" laws being discussed in political circles - different things involved, like people who create and sell spare parts, and people who have a repair business, shouldn't be penalized for patent infringement. Nor should people who post "how to fix" videos on "the UTube" or people who just want to fix their own stuff when the warranty's expired. I hope it passes - there's way too much waste built into consumer products.

So how DO you curl up a hose the right way?

How do you do it? Really.
You have to keep untwisting as you are coiling, and it will coil up in a relaxed shape. My Grandpa had me lay it out flat, then pull in and coil each untwisted section at a time. He could flick the remainder and get it untwisted, but when I tried it as a 4-5 year-old, I had to keep running back to the far end to untangle it.
Geez my Grandpa was picky - and now I'm just as picky, LOL - but the hoses that came with this house when we bought it 14 years ago (and who knows how old they were then) are still in good shape with no kinks or leaks.

I hear the tea stinks pretty bad.
Not nearly as bad as Alaska Fish Fertilizer! :thBut it does stink, that's why my dog loves it.
Do you have a large skillet, big enough for that medium size pot to fit in? Put the skillet on the burner, then the pot in the dry skillet. The skillet will soak up some of the heat, and you can get a gentle simmer that way.
Great idea! I'll have to see if it would fit in my giant cast iron.

Great idea on the compost too!

I can't get a dang hose to last 2 years! It's so frustrating.

Morning all. Another nice day here, but some wildfire smoke so not as sunny as it should be.

I had a dream someone let my chickens out & I couldn't find them. I was so upset. :gig

I have rubber garden hoses. Pricey but last for years. I have had them 20 + years. Can use hot water in them but I never have.
