What did you do in the garden today?

My garden plants just don't seem to be thriving so I just ordered a soil testing meter. Maybe something's off kilter in the raised beds.

I put out some old eggs in the area not planted for the crows. They have been doing a great job of keeping the hawks chased a way from the free ranging chickens.

I have now baited the rain clouds with fresh laundry on the line (not clothes due to allergies, but by weaving sheeting)

That's hilarious, and I wish my clothesline hadn't broken so I could try using it to conjure up some rain clouds.

Did some planting (still some to do) after tilling, and worked a bit on a garden gate. Sage bloooming and smelling great.

Added some 10’ t posts to try and train melons and squash up it.

Zucchini has been transplanted. I removed all the buds, as it needs to focus its energy into putting down roots.

Addendum: picked this year's first green beans!

20 melon hills planted last week with 20 varieties. As of this evening, 16 hills are sprouting. Yay!!

Garlic is producing scapes-they are tasty.

Many items planted are showing sunburn…but new growth all looks good.

I forgot to mention that 2 of the tire beds I've been growing potatoes in have died. I looked closer at the remaining beds and they appear to be infested with Colorado Potato Beetles. I haven't been home to pick them off... We ARE taking a day off from packing up my mom's house tomorrow so maybe I'll have a chance to play catch up in the garden. I wonder if Neem works on potato bugs?

I had DH bring it all in and 30 minutes later it rained. Not much, but I'll take it.

I dug up my 4 x 4 raise bed and notice that I chopped a lot of earth worms in half. I wasn't sure if they would die and attract ants, so I did a search and found out that each half will regenerate into another earth worm.

I gathered a bunch of chopped worms and put them on top of a newly filled wicking bucket and when I came back to look at them they were gone. I think they dug down.......
