What did you do in the garden today?

Thanks, I do have one of those things ( for cleaning out the drainpipes on our roof) , and it has to do something with the garden, cos if we’re 8 people with 1 toilet, in an emergency, somebody would have to go to the garden 😳
We have inadequate 50 year old plumbing in a high water table location, so the previous owner added a powerflush for the main toilet. I've considered getting a composting toilet as a backup.

We got 1 done. Took a lot of time. The other one will be tomorrow. I was covered in goat hair, but I was only holding the goat or getting jumped on. Teen was wielding the clippers. As far as bucks go…well, I hear they like to impress the ladies in a very stinky fashion, can’t imagine what they smell like wet!
I've seen/SMELLED a buck in rut, which is why I would rather have a wether. Or two. Maybe some day...

Is it possible that some critter is eating the seeds you're planting? Birds? Voles? Mice?
Hmm, could be! Probably crows, I think they watch me plant, then wait for me to go inside so they can feast. But for smaller seeds like basil, I don't see how they could get every single one...
I'm having trouble getting the seeds to come up. I don't know if problem is germinating or something else.

I had a little better results when I put them in damp paper towels in the house to germinate. Then I put the germinated seeds in six pack seedling containers because I don't know what stage I lost the earlier attempts. I thought temperature might be the problem. Or watering. Or a combination.
Same - I'm going to try your method.

Haha, ask all the males to pee in your compost! It's supposed to be good for it!

Aw crap, I miscalculated, and my chicks won't be 6-weeks-old and ready to go outside until Aug. 7th. But the new eggs are due to hatch 10 days from now, July 30. Yikes, Mr. Dog is going to be unhappy when I break the news they have to stay in longer - the laundry/mud room is starting to get slightly stinky! Oh well, at least I have extra brooders and can cram in a second one for a week. Or possibly, the older chicks might be able to go outside at 5 weeks? The temperature is not dipping below the 60s for the foreseeable future - anybody have advice?

Finally had something to harvest - a few handfuls of lettuce. Not enough for a full salad, so I added in a bunch of Italian parsley to round it out. So delicious!

Healthy human urine is sterile, and has lots of good stuff for plants, especially nitrogen.

Male urine also has some testosterone, which helps keep other critters away.
I heard that several places, and referenced it to my physiology professor. In front of classmates. It was what some people call an emotionally significant event. It, well, just isn't. Not even while it is still in the bladder of a healthy person.

OMG I'm so jealous! I keep searching but am not finding any. :hit Still seeing butterflies tho.
Those purple “flowers” look like a kind of rucola to me, if it is, the flowers are edible
The coneflowers (echinacea) or the wildflowers?
I made it out to the church garden. Picked a few jalapeños , a few Cheyenne peppers, 2 green peppers and 4 or 5 tomatoes ( slicers!). Planted more green bean seeds in an effort to get some green beans this year and planted a few cucumber seeds because my couple of cucumber plants died. 😞
Update in my son:
I went to see Charlie today. While I was there the social worker came to tell him that he is "too good for inpatient rehab". So they are going to send him home to my house and he is going to do a day program rehab for a few months and then switch to 1 or 2 hours a day 3 days a week. The social worker said he will need rehab for a long time in order to avoid having to have more surgeries. In the day program they will pick him up in the morning, take him to the place, work with him on things like cooking, cleaning, daily living skills adjusting for his new limitations, he would eat lunch there, do more PT and OT after lunch and then they would bring him back home. Monday through Friday.
How is he doing mentally? If you don't mind me asking, no worries if you don't want to talk about it. It's got to be so hard facing what's in front of him.

I would think they'd be fine at that temp. Just make sure they have a good draft free place they can go. Mine had no use for the heat plate at that age & I brooded them outdoors in the fall (of course they were acclimated, but still).

Too bad you all can’t see the next few hours of my life…it will be laugh worthy I think. The 2 female Nigerian Dwarf goats (not in milk, so no large udders) will be washed, then we will attempt to trim their coats. Neither of these things we have done before.
Do NG goats normally need to be clipped? Are you doing it to harvest their hair, or just to keep them cool in this crazy heat wave?
Trying to learn, since we plan to get a couple smallish goat wethers to keep the blackberries under control, once we've enough clearing to build a fence and a house for them. I have this fantasy about getting fiber goats like Angoras, and learning to spin yarn - as if I need yet another hobby.

Last 4 rows of sweet corn to process today. :) It's really good. I'm going to cook some up as a side dish with the meatloaf tonight.
