What did you do in the garden today?

First time I got poison ivy, too. In my case, it was a hot day and I was outside weed whacking some overgrown brush and tall grass while wearing shorts. At first, I too thought, or hoped, it was mosquito bites because they were thick that evening. But it was evident it was poison ivy as the rash spread.

I'm wearing long jeans now when weed whacking the tall grass, despite how hot it may be outside. Not only does wearing long jeans protect me against poison ivy, but it also prevents the mosquitoes and flies from biting around my ankles.
My dad told me the story about their Victory Garden in the 1940s. His father had an acre he decided to put under cultivation. It was weedy, so he (my grandfather) spent the day clearing it...with his shirt off.
😳
Yep, he came down with a severe case of poison ivy, was in bed for over a week.

They also had chickens! My dad was about 13, and was in charge of the brooder, the chicken coop, and catching Sunday dinner.

Moved 75 cubic feet of manure today
The boys were very curious about this new machine.
It holds three loader buckets from the tractor, which would normally take me about 30 trips to the hayfield, time and diesel, about 4 hours.
This took, including washing the spreader, only 1.5 hours.
Very pleased with it.

I think the farmers where I grew up called spreading the manure as sunshine fertilizer.

What is that animal looking at you? Is that an alpaca or llama over by the fence?

Finally stopped raining, but more coming Friday.

I picked all the green beans I could reach. I got a whole bunch of giants I had missed, put em in the processor & gave them to the chickens. The rest are in the freezer. I keep saying I have enough for the winter, but I keep adding more, lol.

My neighbor brought over 2 tuna steaks from his day fishing. :drool I will bring them a dozen eggs as soon as my slackers lay them - I'm down to like 4 a day.

Tons of hummingbirds in the garden tonight. Their so neat.
